JUMO Ex-i Two-Channel Isolating Switch Amplifier 707540

Description

Two-channel isolating switch amplifier for NAMUR sensors and float switches

The JUMO Ex-i isolating switch amplifier (type 707540) provides safe galvanic isolation and transfer of switch signals from the hazardous area. It has two intrinsically safe inputs for unconnected contacts, contacts with a resistance circuit, or NAMUR proximity sensors per EN 60947-5-6, and one changeover relay per channel. The data sheet states it can be mounted in Ex zone 2 and used with a sensor in zone 0.

It is a natural match for JUMO NESOS float switches that have two switch contacts, and the two-channel design replaces a second amplifier, saving cost and cabinet space. Line fault detection watches both sensor lines for break and short circuit, and DIP switches set the phase reversal. The ambient range runs from -40 to +60 °C.

Phase reversal is available through DIP switch settings, and the relay contact rating of 500 VA lets it switch small contactors and signal lamps directly.

Selection, accessories and use conditions

Order it as 707540/38 for the AC/DC 24 to 230 V supply. Delivery includes the device, operating manual and EU declaration of conformity. The data sheet lists JUMO NESOS float switches R01 LS (408301), R02 LS (408302), R03 LS (408303), R04 LS (408304) and the horizontal R40 LSH (408340) as accessories.

Special conditions are printed in the sheet. For installation in zone 2 the amplifier must sit in a housing meeting EN 60079-7 with at least IP54 or another recognized type of protection, non-intrinsically safe circuits must not be connected or disconnected in zone 2 while energized, and the DIP switches may only be used when no explosive atmosphere is present.

The data sheet defines the switching points of the NAMUR input: the signal is blocking below 1.2 mA and conducting above 2.1 mA, so a standard NAMUR sensor with a typical 8 V source is read reliably. For plain contacts a resistance circuit is used so that the line fault detection can tell a closed contact from a short circuit.

Applications

Typical jobs are high and low level alarms from float switches in fuel, chemical or water tanks, flow or position detection with NAMUR sensors, and relay coupling of hazardous-area contacts to a PLC input. Each channel has its own relay, so one device can serve a high alarm and a low alarm at the same time.

The line fault LEDs (LF1 and LF2) and output LEDs (OUT1 and OUT2) make loop checking quick. Wire the intrinsically safe inputs on terminals 4.1/4.3 (channel 1) and 5.1/5.3 (channel 2), and verify entity parameters of the field device and cable against the safety data before startup.

Because the relay is rated for up to 250 V AC and 500 VA, the output can drive a small interposing relay or a PLC input directly; the recommended minimum load of 5 V and 10 mA should be respected for dry-contact reliability. Plan terminal marking so that each channel keeps its own sensor, alarm and cable tag.

Before commissioning, compare the Ex entity values of the field device with the output values of the amplifier and the cable data. The safety data in the table must cover the connected circuit, and the wiring documentation should be kept with the plant records.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
