Pepperl+Fuchs KFD2-GUT-1.D Temperature Converter, 2 Relays
Description
KFD2-GUT-1.D temperature converter with two trip relays
The KFD2-GUT-1.D is a universal temperature signal conditioner. It takes the signal of a resistance thermometer, a thermocouple, a potentiometer or a voltage source, isolates it, and delivers a proportional 0/4 to 20 mA output plus two relay contacts that can be set as limit values. A display and keypad on the front allow local configuration, and the PACTware software is available for configuration from a PC.
Seven Star LLC supplies the KFD2-GUT-1.D in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat. This page explains the input options, the safety-related features and the points to confirm for a temperature-monitoring loop.
What KFD2-GUT-1.D stands for
The KFD2-GUT-1.D is a type designation of the Pepperl+Fuchs K-System, named in the datasheet as a temperature converter with trip values. It is a 1-channel signal conditioner with 24 V DC supply through the Power Rail. The housing is the wider C2 type, 40 mm, because it contains two relays in addition to the analog output.
The datasheet lists the function as a conditioner with galvanic isolation between field and control circuits, and shows up to SIL 2 under IEC/EN 61508 and IEC/EN 61511. As with all safety ratings, the figures are valid only when the device is used within the conditions given in the manufacturer safety documentation.

How the KFD2-GUT-1.D converts temperature signals
For a resistance thermometer, the module applies a measuring current of about 400 µA and evaluates the resistance of the sensor in 2-, 3- or 4-wire connection. The 3- and 4-wire modes remove lead resistance errors, and the datasheet allows up to 50 Ω of lead resistance. For thermocouples, the module compensates the cold junction either internally, with the removable K-CJC terminal block available as an accessory, or externally. Sensor breakage is detected, and RTD short circuit is detected too.
The measured temperature is output as a 0 or 4 to 20 mA current. In a fault the output goes to the NAMUR NE43 downscale or upscale level, so the control system can distinguish a broken sensor from a valid measurement. The two relays work as limit contacts and can be configured for minimum or maximum alarms.
A redundant thermocouple input is listed as a feature on the datasheet, which supports duplicated measuring points on critical equipment such as bearings and furnaces.
Using the KFD2-GUT-1.D with related converters
The KFD2-GUT-1.D is a 40 mm module intended for safe-area sensors. For temperature signals from intrinsically safe sensors the K-System offers Ex temperature converters such as the KFD2-UT2-Ex2, and the 12.5 mm KCD2-UT2-1 is a slimmer universal converter without relays.
Together with the KFD2-EB2 power feed module and the UPR-03 rail, a row of KFD2-GUT-1.D modules forms a compact multi-point temperature interface in a control cabinet.
Selection and ordering checklist for the KFD2-GUT-1.D
- Define the sensor type: RTD, thermocouple, potentiometer or voltage
- For thermocouples, decide on internal cold junction (K-CJC terminal block) or external compensation
- Define the temperature span and the output range
- Define the alarm setpoints for the two relays
- Confirm the SIL requirement and available safety documentation
- Check ambient range -20 to 60 °C against the cabinet
Commissioning the KFD2-GUT-1.D
Wire the sensor to terminals 1 to 4 and 6 according to the sensor type, connect the supply, and configure the sensor type, span, damping and relay thresholds with the keypad or PACTware. Verify the NAMUR fault behaviour by disconnecting the sensor, and verify the relay logic with a simulator before connecting the control system.
If thermocouples are used with internal cold junction compensation, install the K-CJC terminal block on the field terminals and let the module reach thermal equilibrium before checking the reading. For maintenance, save the PACTware parameter file so that a replacement module can be configured identically.
Typical applications in Oman and the GCC
Temperature supervision of motor bearings, gearboxes, process lines, boilers and turbine auxiliaries is the typical home for this module. In Gulf installations, high ambient and radiant heat make accurate sensor-side compensation and fault detection valuable, and the combination of 4-20 mA output with two relay alarms removes the need for a separate temperature switch.

About brand
Pepperl+Fuchs is a German manufacturer of industrial sensors and explosion protection equipment, founded in 1945 in Mannheim by Walter Pepperl and Ludwig Fuchs as a radio repair shop. Defective transformers led them into manufacturing, and the company developed its first proximity switch in the late 1950s. Pepperl+Fuchs is headquartered in Mannheim and is a pioneer of intrinsically safe electrical equipment for hazardous areas.
Seven Star LLC lists Pepperl+Fuchs sensors, isolated barriers, power supplies and hazardous-area mobile devices, and supplies them to instrument and automation teams in Oman by exact model designation.

Ordering Pepperl+Fuchs parts: what we need
Send the complete model designation as printed on the device, including every suffix; a single letter can change the supply voltage or the output type. Add the part number if the label shows one. For barriers, tell us the field device and signal type, the number of channels and whether the safety loop needs a SIL-assessed module. For mobile devices, state the zone or division and the regional radio version.
