PR electronics series listed here
The first two digits of a PR type number show the series. The 4116 is from the 4000 series of DIN-rail devices and accepts RTD, thermocouple, resistance, current and voltage inputs, with analog and relay outputs. The 9116B is from the 9000 series for safety and hazardous-area loops, and the B version is the one that takes signals from Ex zones. The 5335D is a 2-wire HART transmitter for mounting in a sensor connection head, and the D version is the intrinsically safe one. The 4000 and 9000 series are set up with the detachable 4500-series display front.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does the letter at the end of a PR electronics type number mean?
It selects the version within a type. On the 5335 head transmitter and the 9116 converter, the letter separates the A version from the one built for intrinsically safe signals from hazardous zones: 5335A and 5335D, 9116A and 9116B. Functions are otherwise alike, but the approvals and electrical data are not. Order the exact letter shown on the installed device, or tell us the zone and we will check the PR data sheet.
Do I need a display unit to configure a PR 4116 or 9116?
Yes. Both are configured through a detachable display and programming front from the PR 4500 series, which clips onto the module, shows the process value and guides you through the menu. One display can be moved from module to module and can copy a configuration. If your site does not already have one, add it to the request.
Which approvals does PR electronics issue for the 9116B and 5335D?
PR electronics publishes ATEX and IECEx certificates for its Ex versions, along with other regional approvals, and provides functional safety documentation for devices assessed for SIL loops, including the 9116. The exact marking differs by type and version. State the certificate scheme and the SIL level your loop requires and we will provide the manufacturer's certificates and safety manual on request.
Can a PR 5335D replace another make of head-mounted temperature transmitter?
In most cases, as long as the essentials match. Head transmitters of this form fit the standard DIN form B connection head. Check the sensor type (RTD or thermocouple, 2, 3 or 4 wire), the measuring range, HART revision expected by your host system and the Ex marking needed. Send the old transmitter's data and we will compare it with the 5335 data sheet.
