Measurement Principle

The JUMO Wtrans T uses a Pt1000 resistance temperature detector connected in a three-wire circuit to sense process temperature, following the standard RTD principle in which the platinum sensing element’s electrical resistance increases in a well-characterized, repeatable way as temperature rises. The probe’s onboard electronics digitize this resistance measurement, convert it to a calibrated temperature value, and transmit the reading – along with encoded transmitter identification and battery status – wirelessly to a paired JUMO Wtrans universal receiver at a configurable transmission interval of 1 to 3600 seconds.

The transmitter housing itself is molded from vibration-resistant, oil- and acid-resistant PEI (polyetherimide) and rated IP67, powered by a 3.6 V lithium battery that also supports the case’s ambient operating range of -30 to +85°C or -25 to +125°C depending on variant.

For hazardous-area installations, the JUMO Wtrans T is available with ATEX approval (basic types 902930/15, /17, and /55), allowing the transmitter to be installed directly in potentially explosive areas up to Zone 0 while the receiver remains outside the Ex zone – the wireless link avoiding the costly cable installations, protection barriers, or supply isolators that a wired intrinsically safe loop would otherwise require.
