JUMO CEROS S15 B Analog OEM Pressure Measuring Cell, 405115

Description

A front-flush mV pressure cell for building your own transmitters

The JUMO CEROS S15 B (type 405115) is an OEM pressure measuring cell with an analog millivolt output. It measures the absolute or relative pressure of liquids, steam and gases, and it is a subassembly for pressure transmitters or for direct integration into the measuring point, for example in valves. The cell can be welded in or sealed with an O-ring, and its pins on the glass opening connect to electronics that amplify the signal and convert it to a standard output. The front-flush welded 316L membrane has a gap-free design, which suits hygienic and CIP or SIP applications. A built-in PTC temperature sensor and simple predefined temperature compensation help the downstream electronics to correct the signal, and ranges run from 100 mbar up to 100 bar.

Using the cell in your own design

The cell is not an end device. The datasheet states that it does not meet the requirements for equipment with a safety function under the Pressure Equipment Directive 2014/68/EU and is not subject to application-specific EMC requirements, so the manufacturer of the end product must carry out testing, issue the declaration of conformity and apply the CE mark. The downstream circuit amplifies the roughly 100 mV span, applies the temperature compensation using the PTC and trims offset, which for a ratiometric bridge scales with the supply voltage. The pin assignment shows the PTC on pins 1 and 3, the bridge supply on pins 3 and 7 and the signal on pins 4 and 8.

Span figures at a 5 V supply differ by range. The typical span is 100 mV with a 50 to 150 mV tolerance in general, but 60 mV at 100 mbar, 100 mV at 350 mbar and 250 mV at 100 bar, so the amplifier gain must be set per range, with an offset window of ±25 mV (±35 mV at 100 mbar). Because the cell is uncompensated, a two-point calibration over temperature in the finished transmitter delivers the accuracy that the long-term stability of up to 0.2 % of span per year can then maintain. The overload capability is about three times the range for most ranges, five times at 100 mbar and 2.5 times at 100 bar.

Installation notes

The cell is calibrated upright with the membrane downward, and it can be mounted in any position. The datasheet shows front-flush installation, where the weld seam is outside the process, and a non-front-flush alternative. Choose a process connection and a seal that matches the medium. The filling oil is FDA-compliant silicon oil, which supports food contact designs, and parts in contact with the medium are 316L and optionally 316Ti. Typical OEM users in the Gulf region are builders of skid-mounted water and chemical dosing units, compressors, valve manifolds and refrigeration plants that want to put their own electronics and housing around a proven sensor.

Using the CEROS S15 B in Oman and the GCC

OEM pressure cells are used by machine builders, valve makers and instrument manufacturers who design their own transmitters or integrate pressure measurement into equipment such as pumps, compressors, valves and water treatment skids. The front-flush membrane is useful where media could block a pressure port, such as viscous liquids, sludge or food products.

The cell provides a millivolt signal, so the design must include suitable amplification, temperature compensation and calibration. Welding or sealing must follow the manufacturer’s guidance to avoid stress on the membrane. When products are used in hot climates, the design should account for the higher ambient and media temperatures in summer and the effect of temperature on zero and span.

For new designs, sending a short description of the product and the expected pressure, temperature and media helps us confirm the right cell variant before samples are ordered and testing starts.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.
