AMETEK Drexelbrook Universal V CM 2-Wire Water Cut Monitor

Description

The AMETEK Drexelbrook Universal V CM (Cut Monitor) is a 2-wire, 4 to 20 mA water cut monitor built on Drexelbrook RF admittance technology. It measures the water content of flowing oil through an insertion probe, with no spool piece, side-arm or slipstream.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Universal V CM from Muscat with the manufacturer data sheet available before quotation.

How RF admittance measures water cut

Oil has a dielectric constant of about 2.3 and water about 80. The sensing element and the pipe wall form a concentric capacitor, and as water content rises the net dielectric and capacitance increase. The onboard electronics convert the capacitance change into water cut. The probe extends at least 15 inches into the line, so the reading averages the fluid along its length.

Cote-Shield technology lets the electronics ignore paraffin and other coatings, and lets the sensing element extend past nozzles and elbows into the process stream for a more realistic sample. The Perm-A-Seal element needs no epoxy coating or gaskets and tolerates sand in well fluids.

  • Factory pre-calibrated to one of 11 preset ranges for light oil (API above 25) and heavy oil (API below 25)
  • 0-50% water in light oil and 0-80% in heavy oil
  • Built-in LCD and keypad, or PACTware FDI over the loop
  • 3-year warranty

Applications and what to confirm before ordering

The data sheet lists automatic well testing, lease automatic custody transfer, BS&W, separation vessels, pipeline slug detection, truck unloading, pump protection, dielectric analysis and lube oil monitoring. The sensing element is chosen from pipe size, wetted parts, NACE requirement and pressure and temperature, and pipes of 8 inch or larger and tank installations need a concentric shield.

Send the pipe size, oil API gravity, water cut range, operating pressure and temperature, mounting type and approval requirement so the correct sensing element can be matched.

Documents and quotation

To request a quotation for the Universal V CM monitor, send Seven Star LLC the full model or order code, quantity, and any nameplate data from an existing unit that is being replaced or matched. Our Muscat team checks the request against the manufacturer document, which can be downloaded from this page, and replies with a formal quotation. Prices, stock and lead times are confirmed per inquiry.

About brand

AMETEK is the American maker of electronic instruments and electromechanical devices, headquartered in Berwyn, Pennsylvania. It was founded in 1930 as American Machine and Metals. In process industries it is known through brands such as Western Research (sulfur recovery and H2S analysers), Thermox (oxygen analysers), Land (pyrometers), Drexelbrook (RF level) and Chandler Engineering.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list AMETEK process analysers, pyrometers, portable testers and spare parts, and supply them to gas plants, refineries and power stations in Oman and the GCC.

AMETEK company profile

Established 1930, USA, as American Machine and Metals; later renamed AMETEK
Headquarters Berwyn, Pennsylvania
Structure Two groups: Electronic Instruments (EIG) and Electromechanical (EMG)
Process brands Western Research, Thermox, Land, Drexelbrook, Chandler Engineering, Ranarex

Milestones

  • 1930: American Machine and Metals is formed in March and listed on the New York Stock Exchange as AME.
  • Early 1960s: The company is renamed AMETEK.
  • 2021: AMETEK acquires Magnetrol.

AMETEK products we list

Product Type Typical use
888, 900, 930 Western Research sulfur recovery analysers Tail gas, air demand and H2S in sulfur pits on Claus units
931, 933, 9900RM/WM UV gas analysers H2S in natural gas and multi-component process streams
5000, 3050-OLV, 5100HD, 5100P Moisture analysers Water content in natural gas and process gases; the 5100 models use TDLAS
241CE II, Chanscope II / Model 13 Dew point analysers and testers Hydrocarbon and water dew point of natural gas
WDG 1200/1210, WDG-V, TM2000 Thermox oxygen analysers Combustion control on heaters and boilers, and trace oxygen
SPOT+, Cyclops L Land pyrometers Non-contact temperature of furnaces, kilns, tubes and hot metal
120HD, Ranarex, Drexelbrook RCT-1210 Portable analysers and level Hydrogen purity in generators, gas specific gravity, RF level measurement

Most of these analysers work on light absorption. UV analysers such as the 933 and 9900 measure H2S and SO2 by their absorption bands, and tail gas analysers use this to keep the H2S to SO2 ratio near 2:1 for the best Claus conversion. TDLAS moisture analysers use a tuned laser on a single water line, so they respond fast and do not suffer from the glycol and methanol contamination that affects sensor-based analysers.

Where AMETEK instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, AMETEK analysers run on gas processing and sulfur recovery units, gas pipelines and custody points, refinery heaters and boilers, power station generators and steel and cement furnaces.

Ordering AMETEK products: what we need

Send the model and the complete part or sales order number from the nameplate. For a new analyser, send the gas composition, the component and range to be measured, the sample pressure and temperature, and the hazardous area classification. For spare parts, send the part number and the analyser serial number.
