VISCOSITE™ In-Line Viscometer

Description

Overview

The VISCOSITE™ In-Line Viscometer delivers precise, real-time viscosity measurements critical to assuring product consistency and quality across industries as varied as asphalt and food blending, oil and petrochemical refining, and the manufacture of consumer products, pharmaceuticals, and industrial polymers. Galvanic’s ViscoSite viscometers are dual-component systems consisting of a transmitter and a sensor, with the sensor hermetically sealed from the process and welded to a base installed directly in the reactor, tank, or pipe.

As an authorized supplier of Galvanic instrumentation, Seven Star LLC proudly offers the VISCOSITE™ to polymer processing plants, asphalt and fuel blending facilities, and food processing operations across the Sultanate of Oman, Muscat, and the wider GCC. Because the sensor can be installed at the exact point in the process where the critical viscosity measurement must occur, operators gain the process visibility needed to assure consistent product quality throughout production.

Measurement Principle

The VISCOSITE™ covers a viscosity range of 0.1 to 1,000,000 cP, depending on the transducer model and probe type selected for the application, achieving ±2% of reading accuracy, 0.25% of reading repeatability, and ±1% of reading reproducibility. Real-time analysis is delivered at a 1 Hz analysis frequency, giving process operators continuous visibility into viscosity changes as they occur.

Because the sensor is application-specific and hermetically sealed directly into the process vessel or pipe, the VISCOSITE™ avoids the sampling delays and cross-contamination risks associated with extractive viscosity measurement methods, delivering measurement precisely where and when it matters for process control.

Engineering Design of the VISCOSITE™

The VISCOSITE™ transmitter measures 301mm x 335mm x 172mm and weighs 5.5kg, drawing just 10W from a 24VDC or 90-265VAC power supply. Communication is supported via Modbus RS232, RS485, USB, and Ethernet, with 2 SPDT alarm relays and 3 analog outputs (0-10VDC/2-10VDC/0-20mA/4-20mA, isolated and user-configurable) for integration with plant control systems.

The transmitter carries certification up to Class 1 Division 2, Groups ABCD, T4, while the transducer can be rated up to Class 1 Division 1 or ATEX/IECEx Class 1 Zone 1, supporting deployment in a wide range of hazardous process area classifications. An additional analog input accommodates a density transducer, and two RTD inputs for transducer dome and probe temperature are factory configured, giving the system a comprehensive process picture beyond viscosity alone.

Key Features

The VISCOSITE™ combines application-specific sensor design with rugged, hazardous-area-ready construction. Core capabilities include:

  • Viscosity range of 0.1 to 1,000,000 cP depending on transducer model and probe type.
  • ±2% of reading accuracy with real-time analysis at 1 Hz frequency.
  • Hermetically sealed sensor welded directly into the reactor, tank, or pipe.
  • Application-specific sensors for batch and continuous polymer processing, asphalt and fuel blending, food processing, paper coating, and liquid detergent blending.
  • Modbus RS232, RS485, USB, and Ethernet communication.
  • Optional density transducer input alongside factory-configured RTD temperature inputs.
  • Transmitter certified up to Class 1 Division 2, Groups ABCD, T4.
  • Transducer certified up to Class 1 Division 1 or ATEX/IECEx Class 1 Zone 1.

Industrial Applications

The VISCOSITE™ is well suited to batch and continuous polymer processing, asphalt blending, fuel blending, food processing, paper coating manufacturing, and liquid detergent blending across Oman’s process industries. Its ability to install the sensor precisely at the critical measurement point makes it a valuable process control tool wherever viscosity consistency directly affects product quality.

As an authorized supplier of Galvanic instrumentation, Seven Star LLC supports polymer processors, refineries, and food and chemical manufacturers throughout the Sohar and Salalah economic zones and the broader GCC region with the VISCOSITE™’s precise, application-tailored in-line viscosity measurement.
