AMETEK Land SPOT+ Series Smart Industrial Pyrometers

Description

The AMETEK Land SPOT+ series is a family of smart, high-precision fixed pyrometers for non-contact temperature measurement of hot processes. The catalogue groups them in three families: monochromatic (mono) pyrometers, ratio pyrometers, and multi-mode application pyrometers for specific processes. Standard-body models share a patented pulsed green LED targeting pattern, an integrated video sight with local display, and a web server for configuration; fibre-optic versions have no sighting image.

Seven Star LLC supplies Land SPOT+ pyrometers from Muscat; the catalogue is a family guide, so the exact model is selected from the target material, temperature and sighting conditions.

Mono, ratio and application pyrometers compared

Mono pyrometers (M100, M160, M210, M390, M3-5 and the fibre-optic M100 FO and M160 FO) work on a single wavelength. They need a clear view of the target and knowledge of its emissivity, and the shortest practical wavelength is normally recommended because emissivity influence falls with shorter wavelength. The catalogue lists M100 for metals, glass and refractories, M160 for metals and glass processing, M210 for low-temperature metals, M390 for reheat furnaces and M3-5 for rolling mill coilers and heat treatment.

Ratio pyrometers (R100, R160, R210 and fibre-optic R100 FO and R160 FO) use two wavelengths and can compensate for dust, dirty windows, steam, obstacles and a slightly changing emissivity, as long as both signals are affected proportionally. They also monitor signal strength, which indicates window contamination or obstruction. R100 targets high-temperature processes such as cement kilns.

The application pyrometers use multi-band sensing with built-in modes: AL and AL LT for aluminium production, GS for galvanised and galvannealed steel strip, MM for molten metal in foundry and tapping, and TMT for tube wall metal temperature in furnaces, boilers, reformers and crackers.

Selection notes

Choose between families from the process, not the price. Send the target material and its surface condition, minimum and maximum temperature, target size and distance (which sets the spot size through the field of view), whether dust, steam or a window is in the path, the output and network required, the ambient temperature at the mounting point and whether a hazardous area housing, fibre-optic head or cooling accessory is needed. Hazardous area housing and a full range of mountings and accessories are listed as available.

How the AMETEK Land SPOT+ Series works

A pyrometer collects the infrared radiation from a hot target and converts it into a temperature signal. Mono types read a single wavelength. Ratio types compare two wavelengths, and application types use several bands with built-in modes for a specific process.

Where the SPOT+ Series is used

  • Reheat furnaces
  • Rolling mill coilers
  • Aluminium production
  • Galvanised steel strip lines
  • Cement kilns

Selection checklist for the SPOT+ Series

  • Target material
  • Temperature range
  • Mono, ratio or application type
  • Emissivity of the target
  • Dust, steam or dirty windows
  • Field of view needed
  • Standard body or fibre-optic
  • Output and communication needs

Installation, commissioning and maintenance notes for the SPOT+ Series

Mount the pyrometer so it has a clear sight of the target and use the green LED pattern and the video sight to aim it. Set the emissivity for mono types. Keep the lens and any window clean, and watch the signal strength on ratio types for contamination.

About brand

Process analyzers for sulfur recovery, moisture and combustion are the AMETEK products most often requested by gas plants and refineries. AMETEK, a US instrument manufacturer founded in 1930 and based in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, sells them under names such as Western Research, Thermox and Drexelbrook. Seven Star LLC lists AMETEK gas analyzers, analyzer spare parts and level transmitters, and sources them for process plants in Oman.

AMETEK analyzers and parts listed

The AMETEK products on this page include:

  • 5100HD and the transportable 5100P: tunable diode laser (TDLAS) analyzers, used for example for moisture in natural gas
  • 3050-OLV: process moisture analyzer, with spare boards such as 305110902S
  • Thermox WDG-V: flue gas oxygen analyzer for combustion control
  • Western Research 900 air demand analyzer and 930 analyzer for H2S in sulfur pits
  • Drexelbrook RCT-1210 RF level transmitter
  • Spare parts: PCB assemblies, a protected gold mirror and hollow cathode lamps

Where AMETEK analyzers are used

The 900 air demand analyzer sits on the tail gas of a Claus sulfur recovery unit and measures H2S and SO2 so the air to the reaction furnace can be trimmed. The 930 watches the vapor space of the sulfur pit. Moisture analyzers such as the 3050-OLV and 5100HD serve gas dehydration, pipeline and LNG feed gas, and the Thermox WDG-V measures excess oxygen on fired heaters and boilers. These duties are common in gas processing and refining across the GCC.

Ordering AMETEK analyzers and spares: what we need

For spare parts, send the AMETEK part number, the analyzer model and its serial number. Boards and optical parts change with analyzer revision, and the serial number lets the build be checked in the manufacturer's records. For a new analyzer we need the stream composition, the component and range to be measured, sample pressure and temperature, area classification, power supply, outputs and whether a sample system or shelter is included. For Drexelbrook level transmitters give the full model number, the probe length and the process material.

Frequently Asked Questions

What families does the SPOT+ series include?
Mono (single wavelength), ratio (two wavelength) and multi-mode application pyrometers for aluminium, galvanised strip, molten metal and furnace tube wall duties.
What temperature range does the series cover?
From 50 degC up to 3500 degC across the families; the exact range depends on the model.
When is a ratio pyrometer preferred?
When dust, steam, a dirty window or a target smaller than the spot can attenuate the signal, or emissivity changes slightly, because ratio models compensate if both wavelengths are affected equally.
How is the SPOT+ configured?
Locally on the instrument display or remotely through the built-in web server, with optional SPOTPro software for datalogging and multi-instrument control.
What communications does it provide?
EtherNet/IP, REST API, Modbus TCP/IP and a web server, plus two 4-20 mA outputs and a relay output.
