AMETEK 5000 Process Moisture Analyzer with Explosion-Proof Field Unit

Description

The AMETEK 5000 Moisture Analyzer measures trace moisture in vapors and gases on line, in parts per million by volume (ppmv). It is used where continuous, reliable measurement of moisture is required in catalytic reforming, olefins and natural gas, and its field unit is explosion-proof for installation close to the sample point.

Seven Star LLC supplies the 5000 from Muscat for refinery, petrochemical and gas processing duties, with the manufacturer data sheet available for review before quotation.

A differential quartz-crystal measurement that diagnoses itself

The analyzer monitors the vibrational frequency change of a hygroscopically sensitized quartz crystal that is exposed alternately to wet sample gas and dry reference gas for 30 second periods. The reference gas is the sample itself, passed through a molecular sieve dryer that removes virtually all moisture. Because the crystal is always compared against a dry reading of the same gas, drift and many interferences cancel. AMETEK notes that unsaturated hydrocarbons, compressor oils, oxygen, carbon dioxide and other species can damage trace moisture sensors, and that a fouled sensor can stay silent yet keep giving an output; the differential principle and continuous diagnostics are intended to expose that condition.

The system is built from three parts. The field unit holds the sample cell, switching valves and electronic circuits inside an explosion-proof housing, with the flowmeter, flow control valves and back pressure regulator mounted externally. The controller is designed for industrial areas and carries all control and data processing, a keypad and a display; it can be separated from the field unit by up to 600 m (2,000 ft). An external dryer supplies the reference gas through the molecular sieve.

  • Internal verification on process gas, fast response and few interferences
  • No process temperature or pressure compensation required
  • Two configurable 4-20 mA signals, RS-485 serial port and three configurable alarms

Selection notes and what to confirm

AMETEK lists catalytic reforming, moisture in olefins and moisture in natural gas as the main applications, in natural gas, petrochemical, refinery and chemical markets. The 5000 is available as single-point or multi-point analysis, with separate AMETEK data sheets for the analyzer controller and for sample systems. Before ordering, confirm the gas composition and contaminants, sample pressure and temperature, the number of sample points, the distance between field unit and controller, the AC supply, ambient temperature range and the hazardous-area certificate set.

Documents and quotation

To request a quotation for the 5000 moisture analyzer, send Seven Star LLC the full model or order code, quantity, and any nameplate data from an existing unit that is being replaced or matched. Our Muscat team checks the request against the manufacturer document, which can be downloaded from this page, and replies with a formal quotation. Prices, stock and lead times are confirmed per inquiry.

About brand

Process analyzers for sulfur recovery, moisture and combustion are the AMETEK products most often requested by gas plants and refineries. AMETEK, a US instrument manufacturer founded in 1930 and based in Berwyn, Pennsylvania, sells them under names such as Western Research, Thermox and Drexelbrook. Seven Star LLC lists AMETEK gas analyzers, analyzer spare parts and level transmitters, and sources them for process plants in Oman.

AMETEK analyzers and parts listed

The AMETEK products on this page include:

  • 5100HD and the transportable 5100P: tunable diode laser (TDLAS) analyzers, used for example for moisture in natural gas
  • 3050-OLV: process moisture analyzer, with spare boards such as 305110902S
  • Thermox WDG-V: flue gas oxygen analyzer for combustion control
  • Western Research 900 air demand analyzer and 930 analyzer for H2S in sulfur pits
  • Drexelbrook RCT-1210 RF level transmitter
  • Spare parts: PCB assemblies, a protected gold mirror and hollow cathode lamps

Where AMETEK analyzers are used

The 900 air demand analyzer sits on the tail gas of a Claus sulfur recovery unit and measures H2S and SO2 so the air to the reaction furnace can be trimmed. The 930 watches the vapor space of the sulfur pit. Moisture analyzers such as the 3050-OLV and 5100HD serve gas dehydration, pipeline and LNG feed gas, and the Thermox WDG-V measures excess oxygen on fired heaters and boilers. These duties are common in gas processing and refining across the GCC.

Ordering AMETEK analyzers and spares: what we need

For spare parts, send the AMETEK part number, the analyzer model and its serial number. Boards and optical parts change with analyzer revision, and the serial number lets the build be checked in the manufacturer's records. For a new analyzer we need the stream composition, the component and range to be measured, sample pressure and temperature, area classification, power supply, outputs and whether a sample system or shelter is included. For Drexelbrook level transmitters give the full model number, the probe length and the process material.
