A thermodynamic trap like the FMTD64 uses the flash steam above a disc to close and the condensate pressure below it to open. That makes it compact and tolerant of water hammer and superheat, which is why it is common on steam mains. On the water side, silica and TOC analysers protect boilers and turbines, because silica carries over with steam and deposits on turbine blades, and organics in returned condensate break down into acids.
