Swan AMI Codes-II Colorimetric Chlorine and Disinfectant Analyzer
Description
Online DPD analyzer for chlorine and other disinfectants
The Swan AMI Codes-II is a complete monitoring system for the automatic, continuous measurement and dosing control of chlorine and other disinfectants. It works on the DPD colorimetric method, referenced in the manual as AWWA 4500 Cl-G and EN ISO 7393-2. Swan lists it for potable water, swimming pools, cooling water, effluent and seawater, and for water that contains additives such as corrosion inhibitors, cyanuric acid and antiscalants.
Free chlorine, chlorine dioxide, bromine and iodine are measured with the Oxycon on-line DPD and Oxycon on-line Buffer reagents. Measuring monochloramine or ozone needs an additional Oxycon on-line KI reagent, which is added to the buffer. The swan.ch product page describes the instrument as a plug-and-play system that is wet bench tested and calibrated before delivery.

How a measurement cycle works
The sample flows through the inlet filter into a constant head with an overflow, so that a small part always runs to drain. A part of the stream enters the mixing chamber, where a peristaltic pump adds the DPD and buffer reagents. The mixed sample flows through the photometer and the colour is read. Afterwards the sample is aerated to create bubbles and passes a bubble detector to the photometer drain.
Diagnostic functions include automatic zero point determination and flow control, and a reagent level detector warns when reagent is running out. Data is stored in non-volatile memory, inputs and outputs have overvoltage protection and the measuring inputs are galvanically separated from the signal outputs. A potential-free input can freeze the reading or interrupt control from an automation system.
Selecting and maintaining the analyzer
Choose the reagent set for the disinfectant, since monochloramine and ozone need the KI reagent. The manual covers maintenance of the pH sensor, replacement of pump and reagent tubes, cleaning of the protective filter, photometer and flow cell, and verification and calibration procedures. The swan.ch page adds a solid-state verification kit for the photometer.
The panel dimensions and weight differ between the manual and the web page, so they are not given here; request the drawing when planning the mounting. Reagents are consumables ordered separately. Confirm the disinfectant, range, pH or cleaning options, communication interface and supply type in the enquiry.

About brand
Swan Analytical is the brand of Swan Analytische Instrumente AG, a Swiss manufacturer in Hinwil that has built online water analyzers since 1991. Its AMI range monitors water quality continuously in power plant steam and water cycles, ultra-pure water, potable water, pools, pharmaceutical and semiconductor processes. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat and lists selected Swan AMI analyzers for power and water plants.
Swan AMI analyzer families
Swan builds panel-mounted AMI monitors for disinfectants (Codes-II, Trides), dissolved oxygen (Oxytrace), conductivity (Powercon), silica (Silitrace), sodium (Soditrace, Sodium A and P), hydrazine, turbidity (Turbiwell, Turbitrace) and total organic carbon (LineTOC). Some earlier AMI models are shown as discontinued on swan.ch, where a newer AMI-II range is listed separately.
Ordering Swan analyzers: what we need
Send the model, measuring range, AC or DC supply, number of sample streams and options. We confirm the model status and the configuration against the Swan operator manual before quoting. Reagents and sensor consumables are ordered separately.
