Potentiometric Titration Principle

A potentiometric titration follows a chemical reaction by measuring the potential of an indicator electrode against a reference while a titrant of known concentration is dosed into the sample. At the equivalence point the potential changes sharply, and the instrument evaluates that change instead of relying on a colour indicator. The result is an objective, reproducible endpoint that does not depend on the eye of the operator, which is why the method is used for coloured, turbid or opaque samples such as lubricants, crude-derived fractions and industrial effluents.
