Normalab FOAM HT High-Temperature Oil Foaming Tester

Description

Foaming tests up to 150 °C for modern lubricants

The FOAM HT (FOAM HT Classic) is Normalab’s dual-station foaming tester for lubricating oils that must be checked at elevated temperature. One bath performs two tests at 24 °C, 93.5 °C and 150 °C under an electronic regulator, covering sequences I, II, III and IV of ASTM D892 and D6082. The bath sits inside a protective glass cage, which matters because the high-temperature sequence uses hot oil and air flow.

Normalab lists ASTM D892, ASTM D6082, IP 146 and ISO 6247 and related methods. D892 determines the foaming characteristics of lubricating oils at 24 °C and 93.5 °C, and D6082 describes the procedure for foaming characteristics at 150 °C, relevant for engine, gear and hydraulic oils that run hot.

Delivered items and options

The FOAM HT is delivered ready for use with a thermometer 41C (ref. 11523), two calibrated flowmeters with needle valves (ref. 9000423), two 1000 ml graduated cylinders with ring ballast (ref. 9416412; cylinder ref. 19371), a Pt 100 probe (ref. 9417905), a bath shaker and stainless steel diffusers, according to Normalab’s leaflet and web page.

Options listed are the polyalphaolefin bath oil (ref. 9416434), a ready-to-use drying tower (ref. 9416401), a wet test gas meter TG 05 (ref. 941644), a cooling cryostat from -28 to +100 °C (ref. 22239), a new air compressor for 230 V (ref. 9426433), a stainless steel diffuser (ref. 24803) and the NDW Tech diffuser washer with integrated pump.

Picking a foam tester

The FOAM HT suits laboratories that must report sequence IV at 150 °C or that want a single unit to cover all four sequences. If only sequences I to III at 24 and 93.5 °C are needed, the FOAM 1&2 range is the alternative from the same manufacturer. In both cases a clean, dry air supply, the gas meter and diffuser cleaning are important to repeatable results.

The tester heats the bath with an electronic regulator and the Pt 100 probe, and the operator uses the weighted 1000 ml cylinders with calibrated flowmeters and needle valves to set the air flow. After each blowing period the foam height is recorded, so the observation window and the glass cage let the operator watch the test without exposure to hot parts. Before ordering, confirm the sequences and standards, the bath oil, cryostat, compressor and drying tower, the spare cylinders and diffusers, the 230 V supply, and the unit weight, which the leaflet and web page state differently. Related equipment is grouped under liquid analytical systems.

About brand

Normalab is a French manufacturer of laboratory instruments for petroleum product testing, established in 1963 and based in Valliquerville, Normandy. The company started out as glassblowers and still runs a glassblowing workshop. For more than 55 years it has designed and built test instruments that follow ASTM, ISO and IP methods, including its NPM 450, the fifth generation of its automated flash point testers.

Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Oman, lists Normalab spare parts: the 60606 circulation pump for the coolant circuit of the NDI 450 automatic distillation analyzer, and the 60448 thermal detection thermocouple. We source Normalab parts by their five-digit reference number.

Normalab instrument families

The manufacturer arranges its instruments by the property tested: flammability, volatility, viscosity, cold flow properties, cleanliness and purity, lubricants, and bitumen, wax and grease. Its glassware line supports the same tests. The methods referenced are ASTM, ISO and IP. Refinery and fuel quality laboratories in the GCC run these instruments daily, which is why the usual request is for a replacement part rather than a complete instrument.

Ordering Normalab parts: what we need

Send the Normalab reference number of the part, the instrument model and its serial number, and a photo of the instrument nameplate. Where the part is a sensor or pump, a photo of the old item with its connector helps the manufacturer confirm the version fitted to your serial number. If you need a complete instrument, name the test method and the products you test.
