JUMO MIDAS S06 Low-Pressure OEM Pressure Transmitter, 401011

Description

A seal-less low-pressure transmitter from 100 mbar for filters and air systems

The JUMO MIDAS S06 (type 401011) is an OEM pressure transmitter for low pressure, with measuring ranges starting at 100 mbar. It uses a seal-less welded measuring system with a piezoresistive silicon sensor behind a stainless steel separating membrane, which the datasheet describes as extremely overload resistant even in the lowest ranges and able to handle millions of pressure cycles. Parts in contact with media are stainless steel, so the transmitter can measure aggressive liquids and gases in harsh conditions. The datasheet lists HVAC, filter technology, mechanical and plant engineering, level measurement, the bubble-through method and packaging as applications. A QUICKON quick-clamp connector is said to cut device installation time by 60 %.

Selecting range, output and connection

Pick the span so that normal duty uses a good part of the range, since the 100 mbar version has a linearity of 0.35 % and the datasheet lists accuracy of 1.2 % at 20 °C for it, against 0.7 % for the 0.4 bar and 0.6 bar versions. A ratiometric 0.5 to 4.5 V output suits a 5 V electronics supply of an OEM controller, while a 4 to 20 mA output suits long cable runs and PLC inputs. The order code builds from the basic type 000, the input code such as 451 for 0 to 0.25 bar, the output code 405 for 4 to 20 mA, and the process connection such as 502 for G 1/4. An extra code 630 adds a pressure channel bore in the process connection, and extra code 933 selects alternative M12 pin assignments such as B1 to B4.

The measuring cell tolerates more than 10 million load changes. Overload capacity is stated as a pressure window, for example -0.4 to +0.4 bar on the 100 mbar range and -1 to +2.4 bar on the 0.6 bar range, which is useful where a blocked filter or a fan surge can briefly raise the pressure far above the normal level. Vibration resistance of 20 g from 10 to 2000 Hz and shock of 50 g make it practical on compressors, packaging machines and air-handling units that vibrate in service.

Installation notes

Mount in any position, but the device is calibrated upright with the connection at the bottom, and a zero offset of up to 1.5 mbar can appear with the connection at the top. This matters most for the 100 mbar range, so a zero-point adjustment after installation is good practice. The protection class shown applies only when a suitable counter piece is mounted, and the transmitter must be connected to the plant potential equalisation, through the connector or the process connection. For air and filter service, take the pressure from a clean point away from condensate, and use the bubble-through method for tank level in non-pressurised vessels. Check the compatibility of the FPM seal with the medium.

Using the MIDAS S06 in Oman and the GCC

Low-pressure transmitters are used in the region on HVAC systems, filter monitoring, compressed air systems, water treatment skids and pumps where small pressures must be measured reliably. The MIDAS S06 is an OEM transmitter, so it is aimed mainly at machine and skid builders who need a compact, robust device in large numbers.

In outdoor equipment or plant rooms, ambient and medium temperatures can be high in summer, so check the temperature limits and consider the effect of direct sun on the housing. Choose the electrical connection and protection rating to suit dusty or humid sites. Protect the transmitter from pressure peaks, such as water hammer, where these may exceed the overload limit.

For new designs, sending the application and expected operating conditions helps us confirm the range, overload limit and connections before samples are ordered.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.
