JUMO Ex-i Repeater Power Supply and Input Isolating Amplifier 707530

Description

HART-capable Ex-i repeater power supply for 2-wire transmitters

The JUMO Ex-i power supply/input isolating amplifier (type 707530) operates intrinsically safe transmitters and mA current sources installed in a hazardous area. It supplies the connected 2-wire transmitter and passes the 0/4 to 20 mA measured value to the safe area. Wiring decides the mode: as a supply isolating amplifier for 2-wire transmitters, or as an input isolating amplifier for 4-wire transmitters and current sources.

The output can be active or passive, and HART communication signals pass in both directions on the Ex and non-Ex side. A switch on the front adds a resistor in the output circuit to raise the HART impedance in low-resistance systems. A single narrow housing, 17.5 mm wide, with 3-way isolation and a 24 to 230 V AC/DC wide-range supply keeps cabinet planning simple.

In repeater power supply operation it provides about 16 V at 20 mA to the transmitter, and the output can be a current of 0 to 20 or 4 to 20 mA, or a voltage of 0 to 5 or 1 to 5 V. The green LED shows that the supply voltage is present.

Selection and wiring notes

Order the device as 707530/38, where 38 means AC/DC 24 to 230 V. Delivery includes the device, operating manual and EU declaration of conformity. The data sheet lists the JUMO dTRANS T01 Ex (00372362) and T01 Ex HART (00391004) among the accessories for matching transmitters.

For the terminals, the Ex-i input is on terminals 4.1/4.2/4.3, the current output on 3.1 to 3.3 and the supply on 1.1 and 1.2. Two DIP switches on the front select source or sink behavior and the HART resistor, and the data sheet states they must be set only with the device voltage-free.

In HART service, the position of the two DIP switches depends on the loop impedance. For circuits with 250 Ohm or more the HART communicator connects directly to the output terminals, and for lower-impedance systems the built-in resistor is activated at the front. Follow the table in the data sheet and operate the switches only with the device de-energized.

Because the unit passes HART signals in both directions, a HART handheld can be connected on either side. The front switch that adds a resistor to the output circuit helps in loops where the total resistance is too low for HART communication.

Applications in hazardous areas

Use it to feed a pressure, temperature or level transmitter in a zone 0 or 1 area and send a clean, isolated signal to a PLC or DCS in the control room. SIL 2 capability, with systematic capability SC 3 for two-channel use, supports safety-related loops where the project requires it.

Because HART passes through, handheld communicators can connect on either side. Check the entity parameters of the connected transmitter and cable against the safety data before commissioning. In warm sites remember the 60 °C upper ambient limit when cabinets are not air-conditioned.

The isolation concept separates input, output and supply, with 375 V peak between the intrinsically safe side and the other circuits and a 2.5 kV test voltage. This protects the control system from faults in the field circuit and also breaks ground loops in the 4 to 20 mA signal path.

The device is approved for use with intrinsically safe circuits and carries SIL 2 data, but the wiring in the hazardous area must be checked against the Ex entity values listed in the table. Installation outside the Ex area is permitted in a control cabinet, within the stated ambient range of -20 to +60 °C.

About brand

JUMO is the German maker of temperature sensors, process controllers, pressure transmitters and liquid analysis instruments. Moritz Kurt Juchheim founded it in Fulda in 1948 as M. K. Juchheim KG, making glass thermometers with six employees. The name JUMO comes from the founder's name. It is still a family company headquartered in Fulda, and the parent company has been called JUMO GmbH & Co. KG since 2003.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list JUMO RTD and thermocouple probes, thermowells, transmitters, controllers, recorders and water analysis instruments, and supply them to process plants, OEMs, HVAC contractors and water utilities in Oman and the GCC by type number.

Choosing a temperature sensor starts with the range and accuracy. A Pt100 RTD is accurate and stable from about -200 to 600 °C and is the usual choice in process plants. A thermocouple (type K or J, for example) covers much higher temperatures and responds faster but is less accurate. The wiring also matters: a 3-wire or 4-wire Pt100 connection cancels the resistance of the cable, while a 2-wire connection adds an error that grows with cable length. That is why a head-mounted transmitter is often fitted close to the sensor.

Where JUMO products are used

In Oman and the GCC, JUMO sensors and controllers are used in oil and gas and chemical plants, food and beverage production, plastics and metal heat treatment, HVAC and district cooling, water and wastewater treatment, swimming pools and marine applications.

Ordering JUMO products: what we need

Send the JUMO type number and the full order code from the label (for example 902020/10-...). For probes, add the sensor type (Pt100, Pt1000, type K or J), the number of wires, the insertion length and diameter, and the process connection. For controllers, add the input, outputs and supply voltage.
