Brand:

AUMA SAR 14.1 Multi-Turn Actuator

Description

Overview

The AUMA SAR 14.1 actuator is an electromechanical multi-turn actuator for the automation of industrial valves, as supplied for the control unit application stated in the original listing, manufactured in Europe by AUMA Riester. Multi-turn actuators of the SAR 14.1 size are used to operate gate valves, globe valves and sluice gates, providing reliable motorised open/close and modulating control of the valve.

AUMA rates the SAR multi-turn actuator range for modulating duty (class C) with S4-25% rating, with special versions available for S4-50% and S5-25% duty, and the range covers a torque band of 15 Nm to 4000 Nm with output speeds to suit different valve sizes.

Note on the data sheet: The figures on this page come from AUMA’s earlier SAR 07.1 – SAR 30.1 data sheet (issue 2007). AUMA’s current data sheet for modulating actuators (SAR 07.2 – SAR 16.2) lists this torque class (120–250 Nm) as the SAR 14.2, with different data: stem up to 58 mm instead of 57 mm, weight 44–48 kg instead of 47–51 kg, output speeds 4–90 rpm instead of 4–45 rpm, and starts per hour falling from 1,200 to 400 instead of to 600. For new projects, confirm the size against the current data sheet.

Current-generation size: AUMA SAR 14.2 modulating actuator.

Engineering & Design

In the AUMA SAR 14.1 actuator, an electric motor drives a worm gear output that rotates the valve stem through the required number of turns, and the actuator transmits torque through the valve attachment according to EN ISO 5210 (F14 flange standard, with DIN 3210 available as an option). The SAR 14.1 output range covers 120 Nm minimum to 250 Nm maximum torque at S4-25% duty, with output speeds from 4 to 45 rpm at 50 Hz (4.8 to 54 rpm at 60 Hz) for the three-phase version. Permitted starts per hour are 1,200 at 4 to 11 rpm, 900 at 16 to 22 rpm and 600 at 32 to 45 rpm.

The actuator accepts a rising valve stem up to 57 mm diameter and includes a 315 mm handwheel with an 11 : 1 or 8 : 1 reduction ratio, depending on output speed, for manual operation in the standard configuration. The approximate weight of the SAR 14.1 three-phase unit is 47 kg (4 to 11 rpm), 48 kg (16 to 22 rpm) or 51 kg (32 to 45 rpm), per AUMA’s SAR 07.1 – SAR 30.1 technical data of 2007.

About brand

Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.

Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need

For a replacement send photos of the actuator, motor and controls nameplates: type, order number, serial number and wiring diagram number. For a new actuator we need:

  • valve type, required torque or thrust, and turns or stroke
  • valve mounting flange and stem or shaft details
  • output speed, duty (open-close or modulating)
  • supply voltage and frequency, control signals or fieldbus
  • enclosure protection, ambient temperature, Ex requirement
