Brand:

AUMA SAEx 14.2 Explosion-Proof Multi-Turn Actuator

Description

Overview

AUMA SAEx 14.2 is the first SAEx frame on the F14 flange. Fourth in the series, it delivers 100–250 Nm (S2-15 min) and carries a 315 mm handwheel for open-close duty in hazardous areas.

Buyers in Oman and the GCC can source the SAEx 14.2 from Seven Star LLC, a trusted AUMA supplier, with a quotation that names torque, speed and controls. Sites in Sohar, Duqm and Salalah are served from Muscat. Also worth a look: Ex multi-turn range (SAEx), SAREx range and AUMA GS part-turn gearboxes.

Operating Principle of the AUMA SAEx 14.2

A 3-phase asynchronous motor drives the SAEx 14.2 through a reduction gear to the output drive. Limit switches stop the stroke, and adjustable torque switches protect valve and gearing in both directions. Self-locking applies up to 90 rpm at 50 Hz (108 rpm at 60 Hz) but not to the 125 and 180 rpm versions.

Engineering Design of the AUMA SAEx 14.2

Lifting is the main installation issue for the SAEx 14.2: at 48 to 52 kg it should be hoisted rather than carried, and the valve yoke and support must be checked for the extra weight. The 315 mm handwheel provides the leverage for manual operation, and commissioning should include setting the limit switches over the true stroke and the torque switches below the 250 Nm ceiling.

Cabling is by Ex plug/socket connector (KT), with control terminals in spring-clamp technology; the housing is IP68 and a 12.5 W motor heater can be added.

Key Features of the AUMA SAEx 14.2

Data points that matter most when specifying the SAEx 14.2:

  • Adjustable trip torque from 100 to 250 Nm for 15-minute duty, 180 Nm for 30-minute duty.
  • Run torque staged from 100 Nm to 80 Nm (S2-15 min) as output speed rises.
  • 60 starts per hour at output speeds of 4–180 rpm (50 Hz).
  • Approximate weight of 48 kg (4–11 rpm), 52 kg (16–180 rpm) and 315 mm handwheel.
  • 0.12–1.80 kW motors at 400 V draw 0.5–5.3 A nominal current.

Selecting the AUMA SAEx 14.2 for Your Valve

The SAEx 14.2 is the first size with an F14 flange and a 58 mm stem capacity, and it is rated for up to 250 Nm tripping torque. Its 315 mm handwheel is a noticeable step up from the 200 mm wheel of the 10.2, which improves manual emergency operation of heavier gate and globe valves. The weight roughly doubles compared with the 10.2 (48 to 52 kg against 26 to 28 kg), so check support brackets and the load capacity of the valve yoke. Run torque is constant at 100 Nm (S2-15 min) up to 125 rpm.

The SAEx 14.2 is the first frame on the F14 flange, with a 58 mm stem capacity and 100 to 250 Nm, more than twice the 120 Nm ceiling of the SAEx 10.2. Valves above 250 Nm go to the SAEx 14.6, which keeps the flange but rises to 500 Nm.

AUMA SAEx 14.2 Torque and Speed Data

The following limits apply to the SAEx 14.2 at rated voltage and an ambient temperature of +40 °C. Illustrative calculation, not AUMA data: a valve needing 36 turns per stroke takes 540 s at 4 rpm, 98 s at 22 rpm and 12 s at 180 rpm.

Output speed, rpm Trip torque, S2-15 / S2-30 min, Nm Run torque, S2-15 / S2-30 min, Nm
4–125 250 / 180 100 / 50
180 200 / 140 80 / 40

Worked Sizing Example for the SAEx 14.2 (Illustrative Calculation)

A medium gate valve on a gas-compression station inlet is specified at 190 Nm seating torque. The SAEx 14.2 covers this at 250 Nm with a 60 Nm reserve, and run torque of 100 Nm up to 125 rpm will usually exceed what the stem needs in mid-travel. If the same valve is specified for fast shutdown at 180 rpm, the tripping torque of 200 Nm leaves only 10 Nm margin, so a lower speed or the 14.6 should be considered. This is an illustrative calculation, not AUMA data.

Industrial Applications

The AUMA SAEx 14.2 suits heavier gate valves, large globe valves and medium-bore pipeline block valves in classified areas. Its 250 Nm range and 315 mm handwheel are typical for valves in crude gathering manifolds, gas-compression stations, and refinery process units where valve torque has outgrown the 10.2.

In Oman, such actuators appear on gas-processing trains, produced-water lines and LNG-related utilities. As trusted AUMA supplier, Seven Star LLC supplies the SAEx 14.2 with Ex certificates, torque curves and wiring diagrams ready for plant document packages.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types

SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.

Where AUMA electric actuators are used

AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.

Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need

For a replacement send photos of the actuator, motor and controls nameplates: type, order number, serial number and wiring diagram number. For a new actuator we need:
  • valve type, required torque or thrust, and turns or stroke
  • valve mounting flange and stem or shaft details
  • output speed, duty (open-close or modulating)
  • supply voltage and frequency, control signals or fieldbus
  • enclosure protection, ambient temperature, Ex requirement
