Honeywell SMV800 SmartLine Multivariable Transmitter
Description
SMV800 SmartLine multivariable transmitter: DP, static pressure and temperature in one body
The Honeywell SMV800 is a multivariable process transmitter from the SmartLine family. A single meter body measures differential pressure, static (line) pressure and process temperature, and the electronics then calculate compensated mass or volume flow from those three inputs. In practice that replaces what is normally a DP transmitter, a separate pressure transmitter and a temperature transmitter feeding a flow computer. Seven Star LLC supplies SMV800 transmitters in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.
SMV800 is a family name, not a single code. The range key in the Honeywell specification picks one of four measuring ranges (SMA810, SMA845, SMG870 or SMG890), which fixes the differential and static pressure limits. The temperature input is chosen separately, as a single RTD input or a single universal input, and the digital protocol is HART 7, Honeywell DE or Modbus RS-485.

How the SMV800 produces compensated flow
Inside the SMV800 a piezoresistive differential sensor and a static pressure sensor share the meter body, and an RTD or thermocouple input on the terminal board adds the temperature. The transmitter runs the flow equation itself, as often as twice per second, using either ASME 1989-style algorithms or the Advanced algorithm option. Because density, gas expansion factor and discharge coefficient are recomputed as pressure and temperature move, the flow value stays correct when operating conditions drift, which a fixed-density calculation cannot do.
The Advanced algorithm covers orifice plates (ASME MFC-3M, AGA 3 and ISO 5167), integral and small-bore orifices, nozzles, Venturi tubes, averaging Pitot tubes, V-Cone, wafer cone and wedge elements. A basic flow density compensation mode, where flow factors are typed in by hand, is also available. Mass flow can be configured for gas, liquid and steam, including superheated and saturated steam. The HART and Modbus versions can also totalize flow.
Where the SMV800 fits in a plant system
The SMV800 suits gas, steam and liquid flow points where a flow computer would otherwise be needed: fuel gas headers, steam to turbines and heat exchangers, boiler feed water, and internal allocation lines. Honeywell tests the whole SmartLine family with Experion PKS, and the HART version works with any DCS or asset-management host that uses device descriptions or DTMs. The Modbus version talks directly to flow computers, RTUs, PLCs and SCADA, supports up to 32 devices in multidrop, and draws only about 70 mW at 9.5 V, which makes it well suited to solar-powered installations.
Related SmartLine parts that we also quote include the STT850 and STT700 temperature transmitters for stand-alone temperature points, the SmartLine GWR and NCR level transmitters, and the modular spares (display, communication module, terminal board and meter body) that fit the SMV800 platform.
SMV800 model selection and ordering checklist
- Choose the range key: SMA810 for very low differential (25 inH2O) and up to 100 psia, SMA845 for 400 inH2O and 1500 psia, SMG870 for 400 inH2O and 4500 psig, SMG890 for 2000 inH2O and 4500 psig.
- State the line pressure and the maximum working pressure; the rated working pressures are 100 psia (SMA810), 3000 psia (SMA845) and 4500 psig (SMG870, SMG890).
- Select the temperature input type: single RTD (2, 3 or 4 wire) or single universal input. Types B, N, R and S thermocouples are available only on HART and Modbus versions, and the DE version uses Pt100 only.
- Pick protocol and output: HART 7, DE or Modbus RS-485, with or without integral display and three-button configuration.
- Specify wetted materials: diaphragm (316L, Hastelloy C-276, Monel 400, tantalum, gold-plated variants), process head, bolting and gaskets, and fill fluid (silicone 200, silicone 704, NEOBEE or CTFE).
- Give the hazardous-area approval and SIL requirement, mounting bracket type, and whether lightning protection is wanted.
Installing and commissioning the SMV800
The meter body mounts with the supplied bracket on a 2 inch pipe in nearly any orientation. Run the impulse lines or manifold for the differential connection as for any DP transmitter, keep them short and equal in temperature, and connect the RTD or thermocouple leads to the terminal board; lead resistance is limited to 50 ohms per leg for most sensor types (10 ohms per leg for Pt25). Loop wiring is polarity insensitive, and the display can be rotated in 90 degree steps.
Flow-related parameters are set through the HART DD or DTM tools, the SCT3000 toolkit for DE, or the SmartLine Modbus Manager, while basic zero and span can be done from the three external buttons. Honeywell advises verifying PV1 and PV2 calibration about every four years. The unit reports critical and non-critical diagnostics and offers fixed-current and simulation modes for loop checks. Electronics, display and terminal modules can be replaced in the field without redoing the meter-body characterisation, which keeps spares simple.
Typical SMV800 applications in Oman and the GCC
In Oman and across the Gulf, multivariable transmitters are used where flow accuracy and tag count both matter. Typical examples are fuel gas and flare gas measurement in oil and gas facilities, steam balance on power and desalination plants, feed gas and utility lines in petrochemical sites, and remote wellhead or pipeline stations reporting over Modbus. The -40 to 85 °C ambient rating and IP66/IP67 housing handle desert heat and dust, while stainless or Hastelloy wetted parts are used on sour or corrosive streams.

About brand
Honeywell is the American industrial technology group whose products on this site cover gas and flame detection, pressure transmitters, flow measurement, gas metering, fire alarm systems and helicopter rotor balancing equipment. Its roots go back to a thermostat business in Minneapolis in 1885 and to Mark Honeywell's heating company, which merged with it in 1927. Several brands we list have joined Honeywell over the years: Gent fire systems of Leicester (part of Honeywell since 2005), Chadwick-Helmuth (a Honeywell business unit from 2002) and Elster gas metering (acquired around the end of 2015).
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Honeywell gas detectors and sensors, transmitters, Elster gas meters and flow computers, Gent fire alarm equipment and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers, and supply them and their spares in Oman and the GCC by part number.

Gas detection uses two basic approaches. Point detectors such as the Sensepoint XCD measure the gas at one location, with a catalytic or infrared sensor for flammable gas and an electrochemical cell for toxic gas such as H2S. Open path detectors such as the Searchline Excel send an infrared beam across an area up to a few hundred metres long and detect a gas cloud anywhere along it. Infrared sensors cannot be poisoned the way catalytic beads can, which matters on sites with silicones or H2S.
Where Honeywell products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Honeywell gas detectors protect wellheads, gas plants, refineries and tank farms. Elster meters and flow computers measure gas at city gate stations and in industry. Gent systems are installed in commercial buildings, hospitals and hotels, and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers are used by helicopter operators.
Ordering Honeywell products: what we need
Send the part number from the label (for example 02104-N-XSSA or SPXCDASMTXF). For gas detectors, add the gas, range, output and certification. For gas meters, add size (DN), flow range and pressure rating. For Gent equipment, add the panel type and loop protocol.
Facts checked against Honeywell press releases and SEC filings, and published histories of Gent and Chadwick-Helmuth, October 2026.
