Honeywell SmartLine STD800 Differential Pressure Transmitter

Description

STD800 SmartLine differential pressure transmitter

The Honeywell SmartLine STD800 is a differential pressure (DP) transmitter that measures the difference between two process pressures, and it is the family member used for flow across an orifice plate or venturi, filter and strainer pressure drop, and hydrostatic level in closed vessels. A piezoresistive silicon sensor combines differential, static pressure and temperature measurement in one element, so the transmitter corrects itself for line pressure and temperature. Seven Star LLC supplies the STD800 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat.

This page covers the full STD800 range of five models, from a 10 inH2O low-DP unit up to a 3,000 psi version, and explains the choices that matter when a DP transmitter is specified.

STD800 models and ranges

Model Upper / lower range limit Max turndown Stability (% URL per year, 15 years) Reference accuracy, % of span (std / opt) MAWP
STD810 10 inH2O / −10 inH2O (24.9 mbar) 100:1 0.15 0.035 50 psi (3.45 bar)
STD815 100 inH2O / −100 inH2O (249 mbar) 200:1 0.02 0.0325 / 0.025 2,500 psi (172 bar)
STD820 400 inH2O / −400 inH2O (996 mbar) 400:1 0.01 0.0325 / 0.025 4,500 psi (310 bar)
STD830 100 psi / −100 psi (6.89 bar) 200:1 0.02 0.0325 / 0.025 4,500 psi (310 bar)
STD870 3,000 psi / −100 psi (206.84 bar) 200:1 0.01 0.0325 / 0.025 4,500 psi (310 bar)

STD820, STD830 and STD870 can optionally be rated to a 6,000 psi (420 bar) MAWP. Static pressure limit, MAWP and overpressure limit are the same figure for these transmitters, and the datasheet de-rates this to 3,000 psi from −26 to −40 °C for models other than the STD810 and STD815.

How the STD800 measures differential pressure

High and low side process pressures act on isolating diaphragms at each end of the meter body, and silicone or fluorinated fill fluid carries both pressures to the sensor. The sensor reports the difference and, at the same time, the static pressure and temperature, so the electronics compensate for line-pressure and temperature shifts. The datasheet shows static pressure effects for each model, which is why a high-pressure DP service should be checked against the combined accuracy tables and not just the headline accuracy.

For flow work, the transmitter can display a calculated square-root flow value in addition to the analog output. The advanced display can show a bar graph or a trend graph and a Health Watch indicator, and the diagnostics are divided into critical and non-critical items. A plugged impulse line detection option is available, and a dual or triple calibration option stores up to three customer ranges.

STD800 selection and ordering checklist

  • Select the range code from the maximum differential pressure and the minimum span you need; avoid selecting so large a model that the working span exceeds the turndown the accuracy tables allow.
  • Check static (line) pressure against the MAWP of the chosen model, including the 6,000 psi option when needed.
  • Wetted materials and fill fluid: use 316 stainless steel heads for water service; Silicone 704 has a minimum rating of 0 °C and CTFE of −40 °C.
  • Process adapters and bolting: 1/4 in NPT is standard; 1/2 in NPT adapter, NACE bolting, Monel K500, super duplex and B7M are listed options.
  • Protocol and display: HART, DE or Fieldbus, with a standard or advanced display and optional zero and span buttons.
  • Approvals: FM, CSA, ATEX, IECEx and others for hazardous areas.
  • Manifold or impulse line mounting arrangement and bracket material.

STD800 installation, commissioning and maintenance

Install the STD800 on the bracket supplied, using a three-valve or five-valve manifold so that the transmitter can be isolated and equalized. Zero the transmitter with both sides equalized after any mounting change, then check the high side and low side connections against the flow direction. Wet legs and dry legs in level work must be filled or drained to match the programmed zero.

Honeywell lists calibration verification every four years as typical. The electronics, display and lightning protection modules can be swapped without recalibrating the meter body, so one spare module set can cover several transmitters on the same site.

Typical applications of the STD800 in Oman and the GCC

In the region the STD800 is used for orifice and venturi flow measurement in oil and gas gathering and export lines, filter differential pressure on seawater intake screens and cooling water strainers, drum level in power and desalination plants, and furnace draft and duct differential pressure measurement. A transmitter that sits in summer sun needs a shade or a sun shield, and its housing should have sealed cable glands to keep dust and humidity out.

Related SmartLine models

The same ST 800 platform includes the STA800 for absolute pressure and the STF800 flange-mounted version used for level on open or closed tanks. The STD800 is the right choice when you can use impulse lines or a manifold, and it shares its electronics, display and configuration tools with its siblings.

About brand

Honeywell is the American industrial technology group whose products on this site cover gas and flame detection, pressure transmitters, flow measurement, gas metering, fire alarm systems and helicopter rotor balancing equipment. Its roots go back to a thermostat business in Minneapolis in 1885 and to Mark Honeywell's heating company, which merged with it in 1927. Several brands we list have joined Honeywell over the years: Gent fire systems of Leicester (part of Honeywell since 2005), Chadwick-Helmuth (a Honeywell business unit from 2002) and Elster gas metering (acquired around the end of 2015).

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Honeywell gas detectors and sensors, transmitters, Elster gas meters and flow computers, Gent fire alarm equipment and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers, and supply them and their spares in Oman and the GCC by part number.

Gas detection uses two basic approaches. Point detectors such as the Sensepoint XCD measure the gas at one location, with a catalytic or infrared sensor for flammable gas and an electrochemical cell for toxic gas such as H2S. Open path detectors such as the Searchline Excel send an infrared beam across an area up to a few hundred metres long and detect a gas cloud anywhere along it. Infrared sensors cannot be poisoned the way catalytic beads can, which matters on sites with silicones or H2S.

Where Honeywell products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Honeywell gas detectors protect wellheads, gas plants, refineries and tank farms. Elster meters and flow computers measure gas at city gate stations and in industry. Gent systems are installed in commercial buildings, hospitals and hotels, and Chadwick-Helmuth balancers are used by helicopter operators.

Ordering Honeywell products: what we need

Send the part number from the label (for example 02104-N-XSSA or SPXCDASMTXF). For gas detectors, add the gas, range, output and certification. For gas meters, add size (DN), flow range and pressure rating. For Gent equipment, add the panel type and loop protocol.

Facts checked against Honeywell press releases and SEC filings, and published histories of Gent and Chadwick-Helmuth, October 2026.
