Ashcroft T5500 Stainless Steel Process Pressure Gauge

Description

Ashcroft T5500 all-welded stainless steel process pressure gauge, 100 and 160 mm

The Ashcroft T5500 is a heavy-duty Bourdon tube pressure gauge built entirely from welded stainless steel for process plants where an ordinary brass or chrome-plated gauge would not survive. It is offered in two dial sizes, 100 mm and 160 mm, with an open-front case that carries a rear blow-out disk. Its sister model, the T6500, uses the same measuring system but has a solid front with a full rear blow-out back for higher personnel protection. Seven Star LLC supplies the T5500 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains how the model is coded so that your RFQ names exactly the gauge you need.

Decoding the T5500 model and ordering code

The data sheet builds the order code in blocks, using the example 10T5500 S D 02 L 15# XC4. Each block is a decision you have to make before a quotation can be firm:

  • Dial size and model: 10T5500 is a 100 mm gauge in a 304 stainless steel case with open front; 16T5500 is the 160 mm version. 10T6500 and 16T6500 are the solid-front equivalents.
  • System (tube and process connection): S for 316L stainless steel, or P for Monel 400.
  • Case design: D for dry, L for liquid filled. With liquid fill the data sheet notes that ranges below 45 psi are not available with glycerin and the fill fluid must be silicone.
  • Process connection size: 02 for 1/4 NPT male, 04 for 1/2 NPT male, 13 for G 1/4 male, 15 for G 1/2 male.
  • Connection location: L for lower, B for back (T5500 only).
  • Range: a code such as 15# for 15 psi, 1KG for 1 kg/cm², 1BR for 1 bar or 160KP for 160 kPa.
  • Options: an X followed by two-letter codes, for example LL for PLUS! Performance damping, NH for a stainless steel tag wired to the case, C4 for a traceable calibration certificate and 5G to attach one accessory.

Temperature limits and fill choices for the T5500

The data sheet publishes ambient, process and storage limits for each filling. A dry gauge is rated for ambient -40 to +70 °C and for process temperature -40 to +200 °C. The PLUS! Performance version is rated for ambient -7 to +70 °C and process -40 to +100 °C. Glycerin fill is listed for ambient -7 to +70 °C and process -7 to +93 °C; silicone fill for ambient -7 to +70 °C and process -40 to +93 °C; Halocarbon fill for ambient -40 to +70 °C and process -40 to +93 °C. The ATEX version is listed with process limits of -40 to +200 °C and a storage maximum of 60 °C. Check these figures against the hottest and coldest conditions on your line before you choose a fill.

How the T5500 handles vibration and pulsation

Plant gauges rarely see a steady, quiet pressure. Reciprocating pumps, compressors and control valves create pulsation, and skids shake. The T5500 addresses this in two ways. First, the optional PLUS! Performance system damps the effect of vibration, shock and pulsation without a liquid fill, which avoids leaks and the staining that a leaking filled gauge leaves on the dial. Second, the data sheet lists classic damping hardware that can be attached or specified with the gauge: throttle screw, dampeners, snubbers and fill fluids. The 5G option lets the factory attach one accessory, such as a pressure limiting valve, a siphon, a needle valve, a capillary or a pressure snubber, so that the gauge arrives as a ready assembly.

Where the T5500 fits and related Ashcroft gauges

The T5500 belongs to the process-duty end of the Ashcroft Bourdon range. Where a solid front and a full rear blow-out back are required by the site safety standard, the T6500 is the matching model, and the data sheet adds a high overpressure RA option for it. Other Ashcroft gauge families such as the 1279 and 1009 are separate models with their own data sheets. For differential duty the Ashcroft 1130 is a separate instrument. If the process medium is corrosive, sticky or hot, the gauge can be combined with a diaphragm seal or isolation ring; the data sheet refers to the manufacturer’s minimum and maximum guide for compatibility.

Selection and ordering checklist for the T5500

  • Dial size (100 or 160 mm) and whether an open-front T5500 or a solid-front T6500 is required by the site HSE rules.
  • Range and unit (psi, bar, kPa, MPa or kg/cm²); leave margin so that steady pressure sits well inside the scale.
  • Wetted material: 316L stainless steel or Monel 400.
  • Dry or liquid-filled case, and the fill fluid, based on the process and ambient temperature.
  • Connection size, thread (NPT or G) and location (lower or back).
  • Accuracy (1 % standard or 0.5 % option), window type and case material (304 or 316).
  • Options: PLUS! Performance, overload stop, ATEX, calibration certificate, tag, red set hand or a factory-attached accessory.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance

Fit the gauge on the wrench flats of the connection, never by turning the case, and use a sealing method suitable for the thread type. The rear blow-out disk must have free space behind and around it so that escaping pressure from a failed Bourdon tube can vent safely; do not box in the back or point it at an operator position. On pulsating lines, fit the isolation hardware before the first pressurisation instead of after the first failure. Because the movement is adjustable, a drifting pointer can be corrected, but a gauge that has seen overpressure, freezing or a hard shock should be checked against a reference standard, and the C4 option gives a traceable certificate at delivery for the record.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

The manufacturer lists offshore oil rigs, chemical and petrochemical plants, power generation, pulp and paper, machine equipment, specialised OEM equipment and food and beverage as typical uses. In Oman and the wider Gulf, an all-welded stainless steel gauge with IP66 and NEMA 4X protection suits compressor stations, wellhead and pipeline skids, pump discharge headers, cooling water systems, fuel gas trains and desalination high-pressure lines, where heat, salt-laden air, dust and washdown attack lesser cases. The 160 mm dial helps readability on tall structures and the optional DuraVis retroreflective dial (100 mm) helps in poor light.

Ordering Ashcroft gauges: what we need

An Ashcroft gauge code is built from dial size, case type, wetted material, connection and range. Send the code from the dial or the nameplate if it is readable. Otherwise state the dial size, the pressure range and units, connection size and position (lower or back), the tube and socket material, and whether liquid filling or a diaphragm seal is needed. Mention the process medium and temperature. For the 2089, give the range, pressure type and units.

03What ingress protection does the T5500 have?
The data sheet lists IP66 and NEMA 4X for the dry gauge, and IP66/67 and NEMA 4X for liquid-filled and hermetically sealed versions.
04What accuracy is available?
Accuracy is 1 percent of span as standard and 0.5 percent of span as an option, offered with the AJ calibration option.
05Can the T5500 be used in hazardous areas?
An ATEX version marked CE II 2 GD c IIC Tx is listed as an option, and it requires safety glass or polycarbonate window. Confirm the marking against your area classification.
