WIKA PGT23.063 intelliGAUGE 63 mm Pressure Gauge, 4-20 mA

Description

WIKA PGT23.063 compact intelliGAUGE: 63 mm safety pressure gauge with 4-20 mA output

The WIKA PGT23.063 is the smallest member of the intelliGAUGE family: a stainless steel safety pressure gauge in nominal size 63 mm [2 1/2 in] with an integrated electronic sensor that outputs 4 … 20 mA. WIKA recommends it where process pressure must be shown locally in limited space and, at the same time, sent to a control room. Measuring ranges reach 0 … 1,000 bar or 0 … 15,000 psi. Seven Star LLC supplies the PGT23.063 in Oman and the GCC as an independent supplier in Muscat, and this page explains how the 63 mm version differs from the larger PGT23.100 and PGT23.160 so the right one can be quoted.

How the PGT23.063 combines mechanical and electronic measurement

The all-welded Bourdon tube system rotates the pointer in proportion to pressure. A contact-free electronic angle encoder reads the position of the pointer shaft; being non-contact, it has no wear or friction. From the angle the instrument derives a signal of 4 … 20 mA. The output span is adjusted automatically with the mechanical scale, so the whole scale equals the whole signal and no setup is needed. Since the dial is purely mechanical, the pressure can still be read if the power supply is lost.

The safety design follows EN 837-1 and ASME B40.100: a non-splintering window, a solid baffle wall between the measuring system and the dial, and a blow-out back, which together protect the person in front of the gauge if the Bourdon tube fails. The case reaches safety level S3.

Process connection and electrical options of the PGT23.063

Threads per EN 837-1 are G 1/8 B, G 1/4 B, G 1/2 B, M10 x 1 and M12 x 1.5 male; per ISO 7 R 1/8 and R 1/4; per ANSI B1.20.1 1/4 NPT and 1/2 NPT. A restrictor of 0.6 or 0.3 mm in stainless steel can be ordered to protect against pressure pulsation. Mounting is without hardware, with surface mounting lugs on the back, or with a polished stainless steel panel mounting flange. Oil- and grease-free and oxygen-service versions are listed. A silicone-oil case filling is available only together with the M8 x 1 miniature connector; on the cable versions the case is unfilled.

The cable has three 0.14 mm² wires and a diameter of 4 mm. On the M8 connector the signal plus is pin 1 (red) and signal minus pin 4 (black); pins 2 and 3 are not connected. Vacuum-resistant versions to -1 bar and a pointer stop pin at zero are optional, and a refrigerant temperature scale such as R 717 can be added to the dial.

Where the PGT23.063 fits and what to compare it with

The data sheet names the PGT23.100 and PGT23.160 as the larger siblings, with class 1.0 accuracy, 4 output variants, ATEX and IECEx options and more connection choices. The PGT23.063 has a single two-wire output, class 1.6 indication and no hazardous-area approval, so choose the larger family where a certified intrinsically safe loop is required. For purely mechanical duty at 63 mm the model 232.50 and the safety model 232.30 are the standard gauges. Accessories such as the 910.11 valve and 910.17 sealing rings fit the process connection.

Selection and ordering checklist for the PGT23.063

  • Measuring range and unit, including vacuum if required.
  • Process connection thread and size.
  • Window: polycarbonate (higher ambient limit) or laminated safety glass.
  • Case filling: only with the M8 connector.
  • Electrical connection: 2 m cable, 5 m cable or M8 x 1 connector.
  • Restrictor, zero-point stop pin and special cleanliness.
  • Mounting: none, rear lugs or panel flange.

Installation, commissioning and maintenance of the PGT23.063

Fix the gauge so the blow-out back has clearance. Connect the loop with correct polarity and a supply of at least 12 V plus the drop across the load. Check that the electrical signal reads 4 mA at zero and 20 mA at full scale against a reference source, and compare with the dial. Temperature affects the electrical value more than the mechanical one: the data sheet lists a temperature error of up to 0.8 % per 10 °C of full scale away from 20 °C, so avoid mounting next to hot pipework. Replace the instrument if the pointer sticks, the window clouds or the output drifts beyond the stated specification.

Typical applications in Oman and the GCC

The compact size makes the PGT23.063 suitable for skids, filter packages, packaged compressors, small pump sets, analyser panels and chemical dosing units where mounting space is short but a signal is required. In the Gulf these appear in water treatment, desalination utilities, power plant auxiliaries and oil and gas packages. The stainless steel case helps against salt-laden air, and the IP65 filled version tolerates dust and washing down.

About brand

WIKA is the German manufacturer of pressure, temperature, level and flow instruments, best known for its pressure gauges. Alexander Wiegand and Philipp Kachel founded it on 2 January 1946 in Klingenberg am Main, Bavaria. The name comes from the first two letters of their surnames. WIKA is still run by the Wiegand family and is headquartered in Klingenberg.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list WIKA pressure gauges, diaphragm seals, transmitters, switches, thermometers and thermowells, and supply them to plants, contractors and panel builders in Oman and the GCC by model and order code.

Temperature sensors and thermowells TR10, TR12-B, TR33, TC10-B, TW10 flanged, TW15 threaded RTD and thermocouple measurement in process lines

The WIKA model number tells you the build. In 232.50, the first digit 2 means stainless steel wetted parts, the second digit 3 means a liquid-fillable case, and ".50" is the case style. The 111 series uses copper alloy wetted parts and suits water and air. Where the medium is corrosive, very hot or would block the gauge, a diaphragm seal such as the 990.27 keeps it away from the Bourdon tube. For temperature, a thermowell like the TW10 lets you remove the sensor without opening the process.

Where WIKA instruments are used

In Oman and the GCC, WIKA gauges, transmitters and thermometers are used in oil and gas, refining and petrochemical plants, power and desalination, water networks, district cooling and HVAC, and on skids and machines from OEMs.

Ordering WIKA instruments: what we need

Send the model, dial size (for example 63, 100 or 160 mm), range and unit, connection size and position (lower or back mount), accuracy class and whether liquid filling is needed. For diaphragm seals and thermowells, add the process connection, materials and insertion length.

FAQ

Questions about the WIKA PGT23.063 intelliGAUGE 63 mm Pressure Gauge,

Answers from our engineering team on installation, compatibility and integration.

01What is the output signal of the WIKA PGT23.063?
It provides a 4 to 20 mA two-wire output, supplied with DC more than 12 V up to 30 V and a load up to 600 ohm.
02What accuracy does the PGT23.063 have?
The mechanical indication is class 1.6 per EN 837-1, and the electrical output is plus or minus 1.6 percent of span.
03Can the PGT23.063 be case-filled?
Yes, with silicone oil, but only together with the M8 x 1 miniature connector. Filled instruments reach IP65, unfilled ones IP54.
04Does the display work if power fails?
