Overview

AUMA SAREx 14.6, the fifth SAREx frame, offers 250 to 500 Nm tripping torque (S4-25 %) and up to 200 / 100 Nm modulating torque (S4-25 % / S4-50 %) on the same F14 flange as the 14.2.

Operating Principle of the AUMA SAREx 14.6

On the SAREx 14.6, the motor and gear drive a stroke that is positioned by pulses from an AMExC or ACExC positioner, with a pulse of at least 70 ms. Modulating torque is 200 / 100 Nm up to 22 rpm and falls to 120 / 60 Nm at 63 to 90 rpm. Self-locking is documented for the SAREx series.

Engineering Design of the SAREx 14.6

On the SAREx 14.6, the combination of 200 Nm modulating torque up to 22 rpm and 120 Nm at 63 to 90 rpm makes speed selection a torque decision as well as a loop-speed decision. The minimum pulse is 70 ms, and with 50 to 56 kg the actuator needs lifting equipment. A 400 mm handwheel allows manual positioning for loop checks.

Connection is by Ex plug/socket connector (KT) and spring-clamp control terminals, with IP68 sealing and a 12.5 W heater option.

Selecting the AUMA SAREx 14.6 for Your Valve

The SAREx 14.6 is the heavy-duty modulating version on the F14 flange, with 250 to 500 Nm tripping torque and modulating torque up to 200 Nm (S4-25%). As the speed rises, the allowed modulating torque steps down: 200 Nm up to 22 rpm, 150 Nm at 32 and 45 rpm, and 120 Nm at 63 to 90 rpm. The starts per hour are 900, 600, 300 and 200 for the same speed bands.

The SAREx 14.6 shares its F14 flange and 58 mm stem with the 14.2 but doubles the trip ceiling to 500 Nm, with a 400 mm handwheel and 50 to 56 kg. Above 500 Nm, the SAREx 16.2 on F16 takes loops up to 1,000 Nm.

AUMA SAREx 14.6 Modulating Torque and Starts by Speed

These are the modulating limits of the AUMA SAREx 14.6 by output speed, valid at nominal voltage and +40 °C. Tripping torque is adjustable up to 500 Nm (S4-25 %) or 360 Nm (S4-50 %). Illustrative calculation, not AUMA data: a control valve with 14 turns per stroke needs 76 s at 11 rpm, 26 s at 32 rpm and 13 s at 63 rpm for a full stroke.

Loop-tuning note: with a 70 ms minimum pulse and reversal pulses between 280 ms (4 rpm) and 80 ms (90 rpm), the SAREx 14.6 has the same pulse data as the 14.2 but works at higher torque. Modulating torque drops from 200 Nm to 120 Nm across the speed range while permitted starts fall from 900 to 200 per hour, so the slower bands combine the highest torque with the most frequent corrections.

Worked Sizing Example for the SAREx 14.6 (Illustrative Calculation)

A large anti-surge control valve shows a friction torque of 170 Nm. The SAREx 14.6 provides 200 Nm modulating torque at S4-25 % up to 22 rpm, so the 4 to 22 rpm bands are suitable, whereas 150 Nm at 32 to 45 rpm and 120 Nm at 63 to 90 rpm are not. With 900 starts per hour at 4 to 11 rpm and 600 at 16 to 22 rpm, the loop can still react quickly. This is an illustrative calculation, not AUMA data.
