AUMA PROFOX-QX Explosion-Proof Compact Part-Turn Actuator
Overview
The AUMA PROFOX-QX is the explosion-proof version of the compact PROFOX-Q part-turn actuator. It is certified for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, which means it is designed not to act as an ignition source: it neither generates ignition sparks nor reaches hot surface temperatures. AUMA states a torque range of 32 Nm to 600 Nm (sizes Q80 to Q600) and open-close and modulating duty, and the actuator carries ATEX marking II 2G Ex db h IIC T4 and IECEx marking Ex db h IIC T4. Certification was performed in close collaboration with national and international certification bodies, and the approval covers atmospheres with high specific ignition capability (IIC) and low ignition temperatures (T4).
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the AUMA PROFOX-QX to oil, gas, petrochemical and chemical customers in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC. Many classified-area valves are in tight spaces, on skids or on small pipework, where large flameproof actuators do not fit. The PROFOX-QX gives such sites the same smart, compact platform as the standard PROFOX-Q, with the certification that hazardous area inspectors require, and Seven Star LLC provides the technical documentation to support approval.
Operating Principle
The AUMA PROFOX-QX works on the same electromechanical principle as the PROFOX-Q: a variable-speed motor drives a compact gear stage that turns the valve through a quarter turn, while limit and torque sensing detects the end positions and overload. The difference is the flameproof (“db”) housing, which is built to withstand an internal explosion and prevent it from igniting the surrounding atmosphere, together with the “h” marking that covers non-electrical ignition sources. The durable flameproof metal housing and premium corrosion protection allow the actuator to be used outdoors in demanding climates.
Variable speed assures premium control accuracy and lets the positioning speed be optimised for each phase of the stroke through operation profiles, with gentle approach to end positions. Diagnostics are an integral part of the AUMA PROFOX-QX: actuator and valve diagnostics, torque profile comparison and predictive maintenance information are available, and the FOX-EYE central LED indicates status in white during standard operation and blue when a Bluetooth connection is active, with the display scheme user-configurable.
Engineering Design of the AUMA PROFOX-QX
The metal housing of the AUMA PROFOX-QX is rated IP67/IP68, corrosion protection is C5-M/C5-I, and the ambient temperature range is −30 °C to +60 °C. The design is compact, can be mounted in any position and is intended for space-limited locations such as skids. Mechanical position indication is available for 90 degrees or 120 degrees, and manual operation is possible through a manual drive. End positions are set with push buttons or through the AUMA Assistant App, and Bluetooth commissioning means the device does not need to be wired to a configuration tool at the valve.
The wide-range power supply covers 1-phase AC voltages between 100 V and 240 V and DC voltages between 180 V and 300 V, with 24 V DC also available. Integration into the DCS is by position transmitter, Profibus, Modbus or Profinet. Dimension sheets cover PF-Q20X to PF-Q40X and PF-Q80X to PF-Q600X, and the electrical data sheets for the X versions cover 1-phase AC, 24 V DC and 180 – 300 V DC supplies.

- End position setting via push buttons or AUMA Assistant App with Bluetooth connection.
- Low standby consumption, diagnostics and predictive maintenance, upgradeable by firmware.
- Easy DCS integration through position transmitter, Profibus, Modbus and Profinet.
Industrial Applications
The AUMA PROFOX-QX is intended for hazardous areas with compact valves: skid-mounted gas conditioning, chemical dosing and injection lines, small tank farm valves, laboratory and pilot plants in petrochemical complexes, and fuel gas systems on power sites. Because it covers gas group IIC with temperature class T4, it can be used in areas that include hydrogen-rich or acetylene atmospheres, provided the zone and marking are confirmed for the specific installation. The compact housing and any-position mounting make retrofits easier where space around the valve is restricted.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA PROFOX-QX across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC, supporting oil and gas operators and EPC contractors around Sohar, Salalah, Duqm and Muscat with certificates, dimension sheets and application guidance. The non-explosion-proof equivalent, the AUMA PROFOX-Q, can be supplied for safe-area valves on the same project so that operators handle a single actuator family with shared commissioning tools. Related AUMA products worth comparing with the AUMA PROFOX-QX include the AUMA PROFOX-Q, the AUMA SQEx explosion-proof part-turn actuator and the AUMA PROFOX-MX, which cover neighbouring duty types and sizes.

AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit.
