AUMA GHT 500.3 Multi-Turn Gearbox (50,000 Nm)
Description
Overview
AUMA GHT 500.3 is the second size of the current GHT multi-turn gearbox series, rated for a maximum output torque of 50,000 Nm in accordance with EN ISO 22109 and a constant run torque of 32,500 Nm across the full travel. It is built for large industrial valves such as gate valves and globe valves, but also for special valves such as louvre dampers, stack dampers, diverters, weirs and sluice gates, where the torque is high over the whole stroke. Three ratios, 10.25:1, 15:1 and 20.5:1, and an F60 attachment on a 765 kg housing define the product.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA GHT 500.3 to power, water and heavy-industry customers across the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC.
Working Principle of the AUMA GHT 500.3
The AUMA GHT 500.3 uses a bronze worm wheel in a cast iron housing (spheroidal cast iron as an option) to turn the multi-turn output of an actuator into very high torque at the valve stem. It is not self-locking, and the standard direction of rotation has clockwise input giving clockwise output (RR), with LL, RL and LR variants available on request. AUMA specifies two torque characteristics: the maximum output torque according to EN ISO 22109 and a constant torque across 100 percent of the travel.
For the 10.25:1 ratio the conversion factor is 8.2, with a maximum input torque of 6,100 Nm at 50,000 Nm and 3,960 Nm at the constant run torque of 32,500 Nm. The 15:1 ratio has a factor of 12 and needs 4,200 Nm and 2,710 Nm, and the 20.5:1 ratio has a factor of 16.4 and needs 3,100 Nm and 1,980 Nm. The maximum input speed is 45 rpm, and the output speed at a 45 rpm actuator is 4.4 rpm at 10.25:1, 3.0 rpm at 15:1 and 2.2 rpm at 20.5:1.
Engineering Design of the AUMA GHT 500.3
The valve attachment is F60 according to EN ISO 5210 with a maximum shaft diameter of 180 mm, and the standard output drive type is B based on EN ISO 5210, with type C, type A according to ISO 5210 and type AF as options. The input shaft is 80 mm cylindrical with a parallel key to DIN 6885-1, and a second shaft end is an option. Weight is 765 kg including the input shaft, output drive type B, the largest possible input flange and standard lubricant.
Actuator pairing follows the ratio: the 10.25:1 ratio takes the SA 35.1, the 15:1 and 20.5:1 ratios take the SA 30.1, with input flanges F25, F30 and F35. Enclosure protection is IP68 with up to 8 m head of water and up to 96 hours of continuous immersion, corrosion protection is KS with KX as an option, and the temperature range is -40 to +80 degrees Celsius with -60 to +60 and 0 to +120 degree options. The standard ATEX marking is II 2G Ex h IIC T3 Gb and II 2D Ex h IIIC T190 degrees Celsius Db.
Ratio and Speed Data of the AUMA GHT 500.3
The three ratios of the AUMA GHT 500.3 are published in AUMA’s data sheet with the following values.
| Ratio | Factor | Max. input torque at 50,000 Nm | Input torque at 32,500 Nm run torque | Actuator | Output speed at 45 rpm actuator |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10.25:1 | 8.2 | 6,100 Nm | 3,960 Nm | SA 35.1 | 4.4 rpm (not self-locking) |
| 15:1 | 12 | 4,200 Nm | 2,710 Nm | SA 30.1 | 3.0 rpm |
| 20.5:1 | 16.4 | 3,100 Nm | 1,980 Nm | SA 30.1 | 2.2 rpm |
The maximum input speed of the AUMA GHT 500.3 is 45 rpm, and the actuator torque must be verified for run times above two minutes.

Industrial Applications
The AUMA GHT 500.3 is meant for valves and gates with a high torque over the entire travel, such as sluice gates and weirs on water intakes, louvre dampers and stack dampers in power-plant flue systems and large gate valves in water transmission. In Oman these applications appear on desalination intake structures and flue-gas systems of power stations, where the constant run torque rating of 32,500 Nm is as important as the peak value.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the GHT 500.3 and matching SA actuators to EPC contractors and utility owners across Oman and the GCC, with coverage for Sohar, Duqm and Salalah. About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.
AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.Where AUMA electric actuators are used
AUMA actuators are found in water, power, oil and gas, marine and general industry. In practice that means isolation and control valves in water treatment and pumping stations, power plant steam and cooling systems, tank farms and pipelines, and sluice gates and dampers.Ordering AUMA actuators and parts: what we need
