Brand: AUMA
AUMA GHE 07.1 Part-Turn Worm Gearbox (250 Nm)
Description
Overview
AUMA GHE 07.1 is the second size of the GHE series of manual part-turn worm gearboxes, designed to operate small butterfly valves, ball valves and plug valves by handwheel with a maximum output torque of 250 Nm. A fixed 80:1 ratio means a person needs only about 10 Nm of input torque to move a valve at its full rated load, and the whole unit weighs just 4 kg. It is a simple, self-locking gearbox with a continuous position indicator, intended for valves that are operated by hand rather than by an electric actuator.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA GHE 07.1 to contractors, facility managers and valve manufacturers in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. We check the valve torque, the flange and the shaft size against AUMA’s data before quoting, and we supply the gearbox with manufacturer documentation.
Working Principle of the AUMA GHE 07.1
The AUMA GHE 07.1 is a worm gearbox in a spheroidal cast iron housing (GJS-500-7), with a bronze housing option for marine use. A handwheel on the worm shaft drives a worm wheel, whose splined coupling turns the valve shaft through a quarter-turn swing. The gearbox is self-locking, so the valve holds its position without a brake, and a continuous mechanical position indicator shows the valve position at all times.
The 80:1 ratio gives a conversion factor of about 25 and requires 20 turns at the input shaft for a 90-degree swing. The swing angle is fixed between 82 and 98 degrees and is adjusted at the factory to 90 degrees unless another angle is specified. A multi-turn version without end stops is possible with special AUMA sizing, and the rated lifetime is 1,000 operating cycles of OPEN-STOP-CLOSE for 90-degree swings between -25 and +80 degrees Celsius.
Engineering Design of the AUMA GHE 07.1
The valve attachment is integrated into the housing according to EN ISO 5211 with an F07 flange, and an F10 flange can be realised with an intermediate flange, which may require an extended coupling. The coupling is delivered without bore as standard and can be machined with a bore and keyway, a square bore or a bore with two flats; the maximum valve shaft is 25.4 mm round, 22 mm square or 22 mm across flats. The coupling can be mounted at four 90-degree positions, which gives flexibility for different orientations.
The standard handwheel is made of polyamide, with a ball-handle handwheel or bronze operating elements to VG 85081 as options. Enclosure protection is IP67 as standard and IP68 as an option, which AUMA defines as 8 m head of water, up to 96 hours of continuous immersion and up to 10 operations during immersion. Corrosion protection is KN with KM for bronze versions in seawater, and the ambient temperature range is -25 to +80 degrees Celsius.
Size Position of the AUMA GHE 07.1 Within the GHE Series
The AUMA GHE 07.1 sits between the 125 Nm GHE 05.1 and the 500 Nm GHE 10.1, as the AUMA data sheet figures below show.
| Type | Max. output torque | Input torque | Valve flange | Max. round shaft | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| GHE 05.1 | 125 Nm | approx. 5 Nm | F07 | 20 mm | 2.5 kg |
| GHE 07.1 | 250 Nm | approx. 10 Nm | F07 (F10 option) | 25.4 mm | 4.0 kg |
| GHE 10.1 | 500 Nm | approx. 20 Nm | F10 (F12 option) | 38 mm | 7.5 kg |
All three types share the 80:1 ratio, the factor of about 25 and the 20 input turns for 90 degrees.
Key Features
The AUMA GHE 07.1 offers a robust, self-locking manual drive for small quarter-turn valves:
- Only about 10 Nm at the handwheel produces 250 Nm at the valve.
- A fixed 80:1 reduction, factor near 25, needs 20 input turns for 90 degrees.
- The worm gear locks itself at standstill, so no brake is needed.
- An F07 flange in the housing is joined by F10 through an intermediate flange.
- Coupling capacity is 25.4 mm round, 22 mm square or 22 mm two-flat.
- A continuous position pointer is standard and the swing is set to 90 degrees at the factory.
- At 4.0 kg without coupling and operating elements, installation stays simple.
- IP67 is standard, with IP68 and a bronze alloy housing option for seawater duty.
Industrial Applications
Small butterfly valves in chilled-water branches, ball valves on utility lines and plug valves in dosing skids are the usual home of the AUMA GHE 07.1, where an operator turns a handwheel and no actuator is needed. In hotels, hospitals and commercial buildings around Muscat, plant-room isolation valves are exercised only occasionally, so a self-locking worm gearbox with a visible pointer is a low-maintenance choice, and the bronze version also suits marine duty.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the GHE 07.1 to contractors, valve builders and facility operators across Oman and the GCC, including customers in the Sohar and Salalah economic zones. This series is for handwheel operation only, and the 1,000-cycle life reflects occasional use, so motorised service of the same valve points to a GS gearbox with an actuator.
Handwheel Effort and Installation Notes for the AUMA GHE 07.1
On the AUMA GHE 07.1 the input torque at full valve load is only about 10 Nm, so a 160 mm handwheel needs a rim force of roughly 125 N (10 Nm divided by a 0.08 m radius), a force that is comfortable for any operator. The 20 handwheel revolutions per quarter turn make operation deliberate rather than fast, and the self-locking worm gear keeps the valve in place when the handwheel is released. During installation the coupling can be turned in four 90-degree steps on the gearbox, the F07 flange is part of the housing, and an F10 flange needs an intermediate flange that may call for an extended coupling, so the valve flange should be confirmed before ordering the AUMA GHE 07.1.

About brand
Electric actuators for industrial valves are the core of AUMA's business. Founded in 1964 and based in Müllheim, Germany, the company builds multi-turn, part-turn and linear actuators with matching gearboxes and actuator controls, in modular combinations that are fixed at the time of order.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier listing AUMA actuators, gearboxes, fail-safe units and the SIMA2 master station for valve automation projects and replacements in Oman and the GCC.
AUMA actuator and gearbox types
SA multi-turn actuators handle open-close duty on gate and globe valves, and SAR is the modulating version; the listing includes the SA 07.2, SA 10.2 and SA 25.1. SAEx and SAREx are the explosion-proof equivalents. Part-turn duty on ball and butterfly valves is covered by SQ and the modulating SQR, or by an SA actuator combined with a GS part-turn gearbox. LE linear thrust units convert multi-turn output to thrust, and GHT multi-turn gearboxes extend the torque range up to 120,000 Nm. PROFOX is the compact actuator line. Special items include the seawater-resistant SGM and SGMR part-turn actuators with bronze housings, the SVC and SVCR globe valve actuators and the FQM fail-safe unit. Integral controls come as AM or AC versions.
Where AUMA electric actuators are used
