AUMA GP 30.1 Planetary Gearbox (2,500 Nm)
Description
Overview
AUMA GP 30.1 is the largest planetary gearbox of the AUMA GP range, rated for 2,500 Nm of valve torque with a coaxial layout and an F30 flange with a 60 mm bore. It offers three ratios, 4:1, 8:1 and 16:1, which let the input torque be reduced from 694 Nm to just 174 Nm for the same valve load, and it weighs 63.5 kg for the first two ratios and 75.5 kg for the 16:1 version. For plant engineers, it is the way to automate a 2,500 Nm gate or globe valve in line with an SA 14.6 or SA 16.2 actuator.
Seven Star LLC is the official trusted supplier and regional supplier for AUMA and supplies the AUMA GP 30.1 to utilities, power plants and process industries in the Sultanate of Oman and the GCC. We select the ratio that balances actuator size and closing time for your valve and send the gearbox with AUMA documentation.
Operating Principle of the AUMA GP 30.1
The AUMA GP 30.1 is a planetary gearbox in which a sun gear, planet gears and a ring gear transform high input speed and low torque into low output speed and high torque along a single axis. The three ratios use different stage configurations and therefore different weights, with the 16:1 version heavier at 75.5 kg because of the additional stage. Like all GP sizes, clockwise rotation at the input gives clockwise rotation at the output.
For the 4:1 ratio the factor is 3.6 and the maximum input torque is 694 Nm at a 40 mm input shaft. The 8:1 ratio has a factor of 7.2 and needs 347 Nm at a 30 mm shaft, and the 16:1 ratio has a factor of 14.4 and needs only 174 Nm at a 30 mm shaft. Handwheels are 500, 630 or 800 mm on the 4:1 ratio, 315, 400 or 500 mm on the 8:1 ratio and 250, 315 or 400 mm on the 16:1 ratio, so manual operation of a 2,500 Nm valve remains realistic.
Engineering Design of the AUMA GP 30.1
The valve attachment is output type B3 according to EN ISO 5210 on an F30 flange with a 60 mm shaft diameter, using a bore with a parallel keyway. Input mounting flanges are F16 for the 4:1 ratio with an SA 16.2 and F14 for the 8:1 and 16:1 ratios with an SA 14.6, so the actuator frame shrinks as the ratio rises.
Protection is IP68-8 (IP68-20 optional), corrosion protection is KN with KS and KX options, and the housing is cast iron with a two-component iron-mica coating in AUMA silver-grey. The ambient range is -60 to +80 degrees Celsius, with an option for 0 to +140 degrees, and the gearbox mounts in any position. For ATEX duty the gearbox is limited to manual operation with a lifetime of 250 cycles for the GP 25.1 and GP 30.1 sizes.
Ratio, Weight and Actuator Data of the AUMA GP 30.1
The three ratios of the AUMA GP 30.1 are listed in AUMA’s technical data with the following figures.
| Ratio | Factor | Max. input torque | Input shaft | Actuator / input flange | Handwheel options | Weight |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 4:1 | 3.6 | 694 Nm | 40 mm | SA 16.2 / F16 | 500, 630, 800 mm | 63.5 kg |
| 8:1 | 7.2 | 347 Nm | 30 mm | SA 14.6 / F14 | 315, 400, 500 mm | 63.5 kg |
| 16:1 | 14.4 | 174 Nm | 30 mm | SA 14.6 / F14 | 250, 315, 400 mm | 75.5 kg |
All three ratios are rated for 2,500 Nm of valve torque with an F30 flange and a 60 mm bore.
Stepping Up From the GP 25.1 to the AUMA GP 30.1
The closest neighbour in AUMA’s GP sheet is the GP 25.1, rated 1,200 Nm with an F25 flange and a 50 mm bore. Moving to the AUMA GP 30.1 more than doubles the valve torque to 2,500 Nm, widens the bore to 60 mm and raises the housing from 55 kg to 63.5 kg on the 4:1 and 8:1 ratios, and from 65 kg to 75.5 kg on the 16:1 ratio. Input torque for the full rating roughly doubles as well: 4:1 needs 694 Nm instead of 333 Nm, 8:1 needs 347 Nm instead of 167 Nm, and 16:1 needs 174 Nm instead of 83 Nm.
That arithmetic is what decides the actuator. The GP 25.1 pairs an SA 14.6 at 4:1 with an SA 14.2 at 8:1 and an SA 10.2 at 16:1, while the GP 30.1 pairs an SA 16.2 at 4:1 and an SA 14.6 at both 8:1 and 16:1, so the larger valve moves the actuator up at every ratio. Input shafts follow the same pattern: 40 mm on the 4:1 ratio and 30 mm on the higher ratios here, against 30, 30 and 20 mm on the GP 25.1.
Key Features
The AUMA GP 30.1 gives large in-line multi-turn valves a planetary drive with three ratios:
- A 2,500 Nm rating with three ratios makes this the largest size of the GP range.
- Factors of 3.6, 7.2 and 14.4 cut the input torque from 694 Nm to 347 Nm and 174 Nm.
- An SA 16.2 mounts on the 4:1 ratio and an SA 14.6 on the 8:1 and 16:1 ratios.
- An F30 flange with a B3 bore and keyway takes stems up to 60 mm.
- Weights of 63.5 kg for 4:1 and 8:1 rise to 75.5 kg at 16:1.
- Handwheels from 250 mm on 16:1 to 800 mm on 4:1 keep manual operation realistic.
- An ambient range of -60 to +80 degrees Celsius is standard, with an option for 0 to +140 degrees.
- ATEX duty is manual only, with a 250-cycle lifetime for this size.
Industrial Applications
The AUMA GP 30.1 fits gate valves and globe valves with a stem axis that must stay vertical to the actuator: large isolation valves on cooling-water and raw-water mains, steam stop valves in power plants and big stop valves on pump discharges. In the Sultanate of Oman, the choice of the 16:1 ratio lets an SA 14.6 operate a valve that would otherwise demand an SA 16.2 or larger, and on valves operated rarely by hand the 800 mm handwheel on the 4:1 ratio gives a practical manual fallback.
In Oman and the GCC, Seven Star LLC supplies the AUMA GP 30.1 with SA actuators and handwheels to EPC contractors and plant owners across Oman and the GCC, including projects at Sohar, Duqm and Salalah.
