Allen-Bradley 2198-P031 Kinetix 5700 7 kW DC-Bus Supply
Description
Kinetix 5700 DC-bus power supply, 7 kW at 480V
The Allen-Bradley 2198-P031 converts a three-phase 195 to 528V AC line (240/480V nominal) into the 276 to 747V DC bus that Kinetix 5700 inverters share. It is 55 mm wide and weighs 4.33 kg (9.55 lb). Rockwell prints a continuous output of 10.5 A DC and 7.0 kW at 480V (3.5 kW at 240V at half power), with a peak of 31.6 A DC and 21.0 kW at 480V.
It is the right size for a compact system of a few small axes, such as a dual-axis 2198-D006 and one or two additional inverters. AC input current is 11.2 A at rating with up to 33.4 A peak, and the maximum inrush is 33.0 A zero-to-peak.

Bus supply specifications in context
The supply has an internal shunt of 37.5 ohm, 75 W, an internal capacitance of 585 microfarads and absorbs 129 J of capacitive energy. Bus overvoltage trips at 460V DC on 240V nominal input and 832V DC on 480V nominal input, and efficiency is 99%. Control power is 24V DC at 0.8 A, and the short-circuit current rating is 200,000 A (rms) symmetrical.
Shunt turn-on is 775V DC plus 30V times the bus-regulator utilization on 480V systems, which spreads shunting between modules on the same bus.
Protection, contactor and installation
For UL/CSA installations the KNX-TD003N table lists a LPJ-15SP (15 A) UL fuse or 16 A DIN gG fuse, and 1489-M3D250 miniature breaker, 140M-D8E-C25 or 140MT-D9E-C25 motor protection breaker, or 140G-G6C3-C25 molded-case breaker. The contactor in the datasheet table is the 100-C16EJ10; a contactor-enable relay output (CED connector, rated 24V DC, 1.0 A) lets the drive control it. Dissipation is 97 W at 20% to 113 W at 100%.
The installation instructions call for M5 bolts torqued to 4.0 N-m, 40 mm of clearance above for airflow and a 300 mm minimum cabinet depth. The supply ships with DC-bus end caps and the mains (IPD), control (CP), I/O (IOD), shunt (RC) and contactor-enable (CED) connector set.

For a servo project built around 2198-P031, tell us the axis count, the motors and cables in use, the supply voltage, the safety concept (hardwired or integrated) and the controller platform. A complete Kinetix system also needs power supplies, cables and filters, and a short parts list lets us check that nothing essential is missing before the quotation (Kinetix 5700 DC-bus power supply, 10.5 A DC, 7.0 kW at 480V, 55 mm).

About brand
Allen-Bradley is the brand of Rockwell Automation for industrial control: ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers, I/O systems, PanelView operator terminals, PowerFlex drives, motor control and industrial network equipment. The company began in Milwaukee in 1903, when Lynde Bradley and Dr. Stanton Allen formed the Compression Rheostat Company to make the motor speed controller Bradley had invented in 1901. It took the name Allen-Bradley in 1909 and was bought by Rockwell International in 1985. Since 2001 its owner has been Rockwell Automation, which is still headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Allen-Bradley company profile
| Founded | 1903, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA, as the Compression Rheostat Company |

Reading Allen-Bradley catalogue numbers
The first digits of an Allen-Bradley catalogue number identify the platform, which tells you what is compatible with what. 1756 is ControlLogix (chassis-based, used for large process and plant control), 1769 is CompactLogix 5370 with Compact I/O, 5069 is CompactLogix 5380 with Compact 5000 I/O, 1734 is POINT I/O, 1794 and 5094 are FLEX and FLEX 5000 distributed I/O, 1746 and 1747 belong to the older SLC 500 family, 1766 is MicroLogix 1400 and 2080 is Micro800. For drives, 25B is PowerFlex 525 and 22B is PowerFlex 40; in a code such as 25B-D010N114, "D" means 380–480 V, "010" is the output current rating, and N114 instead of N104 means the drive has an integrated EMC filter. Many plants in the region still run SLC 500 and older MicroLogix systems, which Rockwell has discontinued, so exact spares and migration to CompactLogix are both common requests.
Where Allen-Bradley products are used
In Oman and the GCC, Allen-Bradley controllers and drives run on oil and gas facilities, water treatment and pumping stations, cement, food and beverage and packaging plants, and on machines supplied by American OEMs. ControlLogix is often the platform for plant control systems, while PowerFlex drives are used on pumps, fans and conveyors.

Ordering Allen-Bradley products: what we need
Send the full catalogue number and the series letter from the label (for example 1756-EN2T Series D), because firmware and compatibility can change between series. For drives, add the motor power, voltage and filter option. For a discontinued SLC 500 or MicroLogix part, tell us whether you need the exact spare or a migration proposal.
