Yaskawa Sigma-7S SGD7S Single-Axis SERVOPACK

Description

The Yaskawa Sigma-7S (SGD7S) is the single-axis SERVOPACK of the Sigma-7 servo system: a compact servo amplifier that drives Sigma-7 rotary, direct drive and linear servo motors with 20-bit or 24-bit serial feedback. It is the standard choice for packaging, labelling, pick-and-place, CNC auxiliaries, semiconductor and general motion machinery that needs fast response and high positioning accuracy.

One hardware platform covers analog / pulse train, MECHATROLINK-III and EtherCAT controllers across three voltage classes. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, quotes SGD7S SERVOPACKs by full model code against the manufacturer technical supplement.

Model code and options

The Technical Supplement decodes SGD7S-R70A00A as follows: SGD7S, then the capacity code (R70 = 0.05 kW, R90 = 0.1 kW, 1R6 = 0.2 kW, 2R8 = 0.4 kW, 3R8 = 0.5 kW, 5R5 = 0.75 kW, 7R6 = 1.0 kW, 120 = 1.5 kW, 180 = 2.0 kW, 200 = 3.0 kW, 330 = 5.0 kW, 470 = 6.0 kW, 550 = 7.5 kW, 590 = 11 kW, 780 = 15 kW for 200 V), then the voltage letter (A 200 VAC, D 400 VAC, F 100 VAC), a two-digit interface code, and a design revision letter. 400 V MECHATROLINK-III models add hardware option digits (000 without options, 026 with a holding brake relay) and an FT/EX specification field (F64 zone table). A single-phase 200 V supply is available on the 120A model as a hardware option.

Choosing the interface and capacity

Pick the 00 interface when a PLC or motion board sends +/-10 V or pulse references. Choose 30 for MECHATROLINK-III motion controllers and A0 for EtherCAT masters; two-axis SGD7W versions exist in the same supplement for tight multi-axis cabinets. Size the amplifier from motor rated and peak torque, not only kW: the SERVOPACK overload curve is set for a 55 C hot start, and in most pairings the servo motor, not the amplifier, sets the actual overload limit. Models 470A and above require an external regenerative resistor unit, and the 400 V models 210 to 370 have no integrated dynamic brake circuit, so plan the brake resistor early. See the servo drives category for other makes.

Installation and what to confirm before ordering

Mounting is base-mounted on all models; rack-mounted on R70A to 330A and duct-ventilated on 470A to 780A. Keep the surrounding air within -5 to 55 C and free from corrosive gas, water, oil, dust and iron dust. Derate above 55 C and above 1000 m. Before ordering confirm: motor series and model (SGM7J, SGM7A, SGM7G, SGM7P, direct drive or linear), supply voltage, interface and controller, feedback type, regenerative resistor, and whether a safety, feedback or application option module is needed.

About brand

Yaskawa Electric is a Japanese manufacturer of AC drives, servo systems and industrial robots, founded in 1915 in Kurosaki, Kitakyushu, by Daigoro Yaskawa with the help of his elder brothers. It started by making electric motors and their applications. In 1977 Yaskawa launched the MOTOMAN-L10, Japan's first fully electric industrial robot. The company is headquartered in Kitakyushu and listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange.

Seven Star LLC supplies Yaskawa AC drives and control hardware in Oman. Listed here are the GA500 and GA700 drives and two 300S CPUs that many users still know under the VIPA name.

  • 1994: Motoman Inc. becomes a wholly owned Yaskawa subsidiary.

Yaskawa drives and VIPA controllers listed here

The GA500 is the compact microdrive for small motors and machine applications, and the GA700 is the general-purpose drive for larger motors and more demanding control. The GA500 is the follow-on to the V1000, and Yaskawa publishes a transition guide between the two. On the control side, the 315-2AG23 (CPU 315SB/DPM) and 315-4NE23 (CPU 315SN/NET) are SPEED7 processors of the 300S system, programmed with Siemens STEP 7 tools.

Ordering Yaskawa drives and CPUs: what we need

For a drive, send the full catalog code from the nameplate (it starts with CIPR-GA50 or CIPR-GA70), which fixes the voltage class, current rating and enclosure. Add the motor power and current, supply voltage, duty (normal or heavy) and any fieldbus option card. For a VIPA CPU, send the order number and the hardware and firmware version on the front label. We supply across the GCC and check each code against Yaskawa documentation.

Facts checked against Yaskawa's own corporate history pages, October 2026.
