Reading the catalog number

2711P is the PanelView Plus 7 range, T means touch-only and 10C is the 10.4-inch display. 22 is two Ethernet ports, D is 24V DC power and 9P is the Performance model. The same technical data lists a B-prefixed variant with a keypad and an A-version with 100 to 240V AC power, which is a discontinued option.

Catalog numbers ending in K are conformal coated for corrosive environments, and those ending -B leave out the Allen-Bradley brand marking.

Series A and Series B differences

The Performance technical data prints both hardware generations. Series A has 18-bit graphics, 512 MB RAM and Windows CE 6.0, while Series B has 24-bit graphics, 4 GB RAM and Windows 10 IoT Core. Power consumption falls from 50 W to 32 W maximum in Series B.

The terminal is 252 x 297 x 69.6 mm, weighs 2.28 kg and needs a 224 x 269 mm cutout. Enclosure ratings are NEMA and UL Type 12, 13 and 4X, plus IP66 as classified by UL, with 0 to 55 °C operation.

The backlight is rated for 50,000 hours to half brightness at 40 °C and cannot be replaced, so display life belongs in the maintenance plan for the machine.

Panel installation of the PanelView Plus 7 terminal

The enclosure ratings of the 2711P-T10C22D9P apply only when the terminal is mounted correctly in a cutout of the size given above. Cut the opening cleanly, remove burrs, and make sure the panel or door is flat and stiff enough not to bend when the mounting clips are tightened. Tighten the clips evenly and in the sequence described in the Rockwell installation instructions so that the gasket compresses uniformly; an over-tightened corner can distort the bezel, while a loose one lets water and dust in. Leave enough room behind the door for the terminal depth, the Ethernet cables with their bend radius, the 24V DC supply wiring and access to the SD card slot and USB ports.

Feed the terminal from a clean 24V DC supply within the listed voltage range and earth it as the installation instructions require. Keep the Ethernet cables away from motor and drive cables inside the door.

Commissioning the HMI application

The runtime application is created in FactoryTalk View Studio for Machine Edition and must be built for the firmware revision installed on the terminal, so confirm the series and firmware of the delivered unit before the project is downloaded. Set the IP addresses for both Ethernet ports to match the plant network design; in a Device Level Ring, the ring supervisor is configured on the network and both ports must be connected to the ring as planned. After loading the application, test every screen with the live controller: tag communication, alarm displays, recipe functions and security log-ins. Keep a copy of the runtime file and the source project with the machine documentation so that a replacement terminal can be restored without rebuilding the application.

Selection checks

  • Series A or Series B hardware and the matching firmware and software versions used in the plant.
  • Network topology: linear, star or Device Level Ring, and the controller family.
  • Panel cutout of an existing door if the terminal is replacing another HMI.
  • Whether conformal coating or an unbranded catalog number is required by the project specification.

Operator terminals in Oman and GCC sites

Touch terminals in Omani plants are often fitted in doors of panels that stand in warm production halls or outdoors under shade structures. Check that the temperature at the terminal, including heat from inside the cabinet and from sunlight on the front, stays inside the 0 to 55 °C operating range; a canopy and cabinet cooling help in summer. Direct sun on the screen also reduces readability and adds heat to the bezel. In dusty areas, clean the touch screen only with a soft cloth and a cleaner allowed by the manufacturer, and inspect the gasket during maintenance for hardening or gaps. For humid coastal or chemical areas, the conformal-coated catalog number mentioned above is worth reviewing at the selection stage. Since the backlight cannot be replaced, plan a spare terminal for critical machines.

About brand

Catalog numbers beginning 1756, 1734, 1746 or 5069 are read at a glance by anyone who maintains Allen-Bradley control panels. The brand, the control hardware name of Rockwell Automation, dates back to 1903 in Milwaukee, USA. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies Allen-Bradley PLC and I/O modules, communication adapters and PowerFlex drives for plants in Oman, matching catalog number, series letter and firmware against the manufacturer's documentation.

Allen-Bradley product families listed here

Current controller platforms on this page are ControlLogix, with the 1756-L85E ControlLogix 5580 controller and the 1756-PA72 chassis power supply, and CompactLogix 5380, with the 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Distributed I/O is represented by POINT I/O: the 1734-AENTR dual-port EtherNet/IP adapter and the 1734-IB8 digital input module. Allen-Bradley drives listed include the PowerFlex 525 and PowerFlex 755. For installed systems there are SLC 500 parts: the 1746-A10 chassis, 1746-NI16I analog input module, 1747-ASB remote I/O adapter, 1747-KE interface and 1747-M13 memory module.

Where Allen-Bradley hardware is used

ControlLogix and CompactLogix controllers run packaged equipment and plant utilities: compressor and pump skids, water and wastewater plants, power distribution, material handling and packaging lines. PowerFlex drives control pumps, fans and conveyors. Many SLC 500 racks are still in service.

Ordering Allen-Bradley modules and drives: what we need

Send the full catalog number, the series letter and, for controllers and communication modules, the firmware revision printed on the side label. Compatibility with an existing project depends on these. For PowerFlex drives, give the complete catalog string, which encodes voltage, current rating, enclosure and options, plus the motor nameplate data. For SLC 500 parts, tell us the rack size and processor so that we can check slot and power supply loading in the manufacturer's manuals. A label photo avoids most mistakes.
