The GA500 is the compact microdrive for small motors and machine applications, and the GA700 is the general-purpose drive for larger motors and more demanding control. The GA500 is the follow-on to the V1000, and Yaskawa publishes a transition guide between the two. On the control side, the 315-2AG23 (CPU 315SB/DPM) and 315-4NE23 (CPU 315SN/NET) are SPEED7 processors of the 300S system, programmed with Siemens STEP 7 tools.

How do I read the model code on a Yaskawa GA500 or GA700 drive?
The nameplate on the side of the drive shows a catalog code beginning with CIPR-GA50 or CIPR-GA70, followed by characters for region, voltage class, rated output current and enclosure or filter options. The same plate gives input and output ratings and the serial number. Send the complete code. A drive should be matched on rated current for your duty, not on kilowatts alone.
Can a GA500 or GA700 replace an older Yaskawa V1000 or A1000?
For the V1000, yes: Yaskawa publishes a V1000 to GA500 transition guide. For the A1000, the GA700 is the model usually put forward, although in some regions the GA800 is named instead. Dimensions, terminal layout and parameter numbering are not identical, so check the mounting and the fieldbus option card. Send us the old drive's full model code and we will identify the corresponding current model from the manufacturer's documentation.
Are VIPA 300S CPUs still identified by the same order numbers under Yaskawa?
Yes. Order numbers such as 315-2AG23 and 315-4NE23 are the ones printed on the modules and used in Yaskawa's documentation for the 300S system. Numbers in this family differ by only a digit or two between CPU generations, so copy the number exactly. Quote the hardware release and firmware version from the label as well, since the hardware configuration in your project is tied to a specific version.
What should I check before ordering a fieldbus option for a Yaskawa drive?
Confirm the drive series first, because option cards are specific to a drive generation. Then state the protocol your PLC uses, such as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, PROFIBUS-DP or Modbus TCP, and whether the drive variant already has a built-in interface. Send the drive's catalog code with the request so the option card is checked against the manufacturer's compatibility list.
