Turck CMVT-QR20 Operating Principle
The Turck CMVT-QR20 uses an internal MEMS accelerometer sampling at 6.6 kHz to capture raw vibration data across all three spatial axes simultaneously, then computes RMS acceleration (up to 16 g) and RMS velocity (up to 320 mm/s at 78 Hz) values on board before transmitting the processed results. A co-located temperature sensor monitors housing temperature across -40°C to +85°C, giving a combined mechanical and thermal health signature for the monitored asset from a single compact device. Both vibration and temperature values, along with warning and alarm status, are transmitted over the standardized IO-Link protocol to a compatible master or gateway.
Because the alarm and warning thresholds are freely parameterizable through IO-Link, plant reliability engineers can tailor trip points to the specific ISO 10816-3 vibration severity zone applicable to each machine class, rather than relying on a fixed factory setting. In SIO mode, the sensor also outputs simple PNP/NPN switching signals for direct wiring into existing relay logic or PLC digital inputs where a full IO-Link infrastructure is not yet in place, allowing a phased migration toward condition-based maintenance without replacing existing control wiring.

The Turck CMVT-QR20 is housed in a rectangular, chemical-resistant Ultem plastic enclosure measuring 71.6 x 62.6 x 20 mm, engineered for direct bolt-on or magnetic mounting to motor housings, pump casings, gearboxes, and compressor frames. A single M12 x 1 male connector provides both power and IO-Link communication through a standard 4-pin cable, simplifying installation and reducing the wiring footprint compared to traditional vibration monitoring systems that require separate signal conditioning modules.
The sensor is rated IP68 and IP69K, withstanding both continuous submersion and high-pressure washdown, and is qualified to 200 g shock resistance and 20 g vibration resistance across 5 hours per axis, ensuring the monitoring device itself survives the same harsh conditions as the machinery it protects. Two status LEDs provide local visual indication of power and switching state, and an optional magnetic mounting kit (MAGKIT-M5) allows tool-free installation and relocation during commissioning or troubleshooting without drilling additional mounting holes.
