Compact Pt1000 temperature sensor with display, IO-Link and analog output

The Turck TS700-L016-16-LI2UPN8-H1141 is a compact temperature sensor with a Pt1000 element to DIN EN 60751 class A. It measures from minus 50 to plus 150 degrees C and combines a four-digit display, a switching output, an analog output and IO-Link in one housing.

Turck describes the TS+ series as a compact unit that integrates the temperature probe and a processing unit with a freely rotatable display. The upper part of the housing can be turned by 340 degrees, and the display by 180 degrees, so it can be read from the operator side after installation.

The housing is stainless steel 1.4404 with Grilamid TR90 UV, Elastollan and Ultramid plastic parts, and Turck lists UL registration number E516036. The data sheet states reference conditions of 15 to 25 degrees C, 860 to 1060 hPa absolute pressure, 10 to 95 percent relative humidity and 24 VDC auxiliary power, which apply to the accuracy and repeatability figures above.

Outputs, display and configuration

Output 1 works as a switching output or in IO-Link mode and output 2 as an analog or switching output. The programming options listed by Turck include switching logic, switch and release points, hysteresis or window mode, normally open or closed, the display unit and the IO-Link mapping profile.

The unit display shows degrees C, degrees F, kelvin and ohm with green LEDs, and two yellow LEDs show the switching state. Turck lists the device in the SIDI GSDML.

Selecting and installing the sensor

The immersion length of 16 mm suits fast response in small lines and tanks, and the stated response times are measured in water. In slow-moving or viscous fluids the response will be slower, so allow for that when the sensor is used in a control loop.

Fit the screw-in adapter with a suitable seal, observe the process pressure limit of 300 bar and keep the electronics within the ambient limit of 80 degrees C. This is a general industrial sensor, not a hazardous-area certified device, so check the installation zone before use.

In BI5-M18-AP6X-H1141, BI is a flush-mountable inductive sensor, 5 is the rated switching distance in millimeters and M18 is the threaded barrel. AP6X is a three-wire DC output, PNP normally open, and H1141 is the M12 connector.
