Using it in the field
The same device runs as PROFINET, EtherNet/IP or Modbus TCP, with the protocol detected automatically, which allows one stock item for different PLC brands. Fully potted electronics, a glass-fibre-reinforced housing and IP65, IP67 and IP69K protection let it be mounted directly on the machine without a cabinet. Pin 1 is switchable per I/O port and the supply is diagnosed per port, details that help on machines with many sensors. The integrated Ethernet switch passes the bus on to the next device.
Installation hint: mount the block on a flat surface with the two fixing holes, use the supply and bus connectors the table lists, assign the IP address or use DHCP before connecting to the controller, and fit protective caps on unused ports so the IP65, IP67 or IP69K rating is kept. Check the power budget of the sensor and actuator groups.
Type code, ident number and checks
Derived from the datasheet titles: TBEN is the Turck block Ethernet family, S1 and S2 are the compact 32 mm wide housings with M8 connections, L4 and L5 are the larger housings with M12 connections (L4 with a 4-pin and L5 with a 5-pin 7/8-inch supply connector in the feature list), DIP means digital PNP inputs, DOP digital PNP outputs and IOL IO-Link master channels. Ident number 6814073 identifies this exact module.
A short checklist before you order: the supply connector, the fieldbus protocol and firmware needed by your PLC, the number and type of channels, the connector style (M8 or M12) of your sensors and valves, and any hazardous-area conditions in the Quick Start Guide. Specifications here are restated from the official datasheet and should be matched against the current maker revision.
Where a compact input block fits in a machine design
Machine builders use compact blocks such as the TBEN-S2-8DIP to collect digital signals close to where they originate instead of running individual sensor cables back to a central cabinet. Proximity switches, photoelectric sensors, limit switches and cylinder position sensors on conveyors, packaging lines, assembly stations and material handling equipment are typical signal sources for an eight-channel PNP input block. Placing the block on the machine shortens cabling, simplifies wiring diagrams and makes it easier to add or move a station later, because only the Ethernet and supply lines run back to the controller. The small housing suits tight spaces on moving modules and tooling, where a larger block with heavier connectors would be awkward to mount.
Integration with PROFINET, EtherNet/IP and Modbus TCP controllers
Because the protocol is detected automatically, the same block can be integrated into a PROFINET project, an EtherNet/IP network or a Modbus TCP system without ordering a different type. In an EtherNet/IP system the assembly instances and the Device Level Ring support listed in the table are the details the controller engineer will use; in a Modbus TCP system the register start addresses and supported function codes define how the PLC reads the inputs. The integrated Ethernet switch allows several blocks to be connected in a line, which keeps network cabling simple across a long machine. ARGEE programmability allows simple logic to run in the block itself where the application calls for it, although most installations treat the block purely as remote inputs for the main controller.
Planning the network addressing before commissioning saves time on site. Deciding whether each block uses a static IP address or DHCP, recording the address against the machine position and documenting which sensor is wired to which input make fault finding and later modifications far easier for maintenance teams.
Installation conditions in Oman and the GCC
Plants in Oman and across the GCC often combine high ambient temperatures, airborne dust and, in food and beverage or packaging facilities, regular washdown. The glass-fibre-reinforced housing, fully potted electronics and the listed protection classes are the features that let the block be mounted directly on equipment in these conditions rather than inside an enclosure. Mounting it out of direct sunlight where possible, routing cables so water runs away from connectors and keeping the M8 connections fully tightened all help preserve the rated protection. On sites with hazardous areas, the ATEX zone 2/22 listing should be checked against the area classification and the Quick Start Guide before the block is specified for that location.

About brand
Turck is a German manufacturer of sensors, connectivity and fieldbus technology for factory and process automation, founded in 1965 and headquartered in Mülheim an der Ruhr. The family-owned group develops and manufactures sensors, connectors, interface technology and I/O systems.
Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. We list Turck sensors and I/O devices for machine builders and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC.
Turck product series
Most of the Turck products here are inductive proximity sensors: threaded M12, M18 and M30 barrels in flush (BI) and non-flush (NI) versions, uprated-range (U) sensors, rectangular CP40 and CP80 housings and BIM magnetic-field sensors for detecting pistons in pneumatic cylinders. The type code describes the sensor; in BI5-M18-AP6X-H1141, BI means flush mounting, 5 is the switching distance in mm, AP6X a three-wire PNP output and H1141 the M12 connector.
Turck also makes RU ultrasonic sensors, PS pressure, TS temperature and LS level sensors, FCI inline flow sensors, the CMVT vibration and temperature sensor for condition monitoring over IO-Link, and fieldbus and Ethernet I/O modules and communication components.
Where Turck sensors are used
Position detection on conveyors, packaging machines, presses and robotic cells; level, pressure and temperature monitoring on hydraulic units and process skids; and vibration monitoring on motors, pumps and fans.
