Turbine and compressor trains in many Asian-built power and process plants are protected by Shinkawa vibration monitoring. Seven Star LLC lists Shinkawa VM-5 series monitor modules, sensors and converters, and sources them by full model code for machinery protection systems in Oman.

Shinkawa monitors and sensors listed

Most items on this page belong to the VM-5 monitoring rack:

  • VM-5K dual vibration monitor, VM-5T thrust position module and VM-5S dual tachometer
  • VM-5F temperature monitor and VM-5P3 phase marker module
  • VM-5Y relay modules, the VM-5Z1 power supply and the VM-5W1 instrumentation rack
  • VM-53 communication module

Alongside these are VK series displacement sensors with VL model codes, a converter system and a VM-751B1 vibration monitor. Shinkawa’s current catalog also shows the FK transducer series, the VM-7 monitor and infiSYS analysis software, which matters when an older part has to be matched with a present-day equivalent.

Where Shinkawa vibration monitoring is used

Shinkawa systems measure shaft vibration, axial (thrust) position, speed, phase reference and bearing temperature on steam turbines, gas turbines, generators, compressors, pumps and fans. The monitors provide alarm and trip relays for machine protection and buffered signals for analysis. In the GCC they are met mainly in power stations, desalination plants, refineries and petrochemical units with Japanese or Korean machinery packages.

Ordering Shinkawa parts: what we need

Shinkawa model codes are long and every field counts. A monitor such as VM-5K-411512-000-000-111-0/IS0/EX5 defines input type, range, options and suffix codes, so please copy the complete string from the module label, including everything after the slashes. For sensors, send the VL or FK model code, probe tip diameter, cable length and the matching driver or converter model, since probe, extension cable and driver work as a calibrated set. A serial number and a photo of the label help us confirm the item in the manufacturer’s documentation. Where a model is no longer produced, we propose the successor the manufacturer names.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read a Shinkawa VM-5 module code?
The letters after VM-5 give the module function, for example K for dual vibration, T for thrust position, S for tachometer, F for temperature, Y for relays and Z for power supply. The number groups that follow set input, range and output options, and suffixes after a slash mark additional specifications. Send the complete code exactly as printed on the label.
Can I replace a Shinkawa probe without replacing the driver?
An eddy current transducer works as a matched system of probe, extension cable and driver, calibrated for a total electrical cable length and a target material. A replacement probe must have the same series, tip diameter and system length as the original. Send the model codes of all three components so the match can be verified in the manufacturer's specification.
What replaces older Shinkawa VK series transducers?
The FK series is the eddy current transducer line shown in Shinkawa's current catalog. Whether an FK transducer can take the place of a particular VK probe and driver depends on thread, tip diameter, system length and the monitor input. Send the full VK or VL model codes and we will check the manufacturer's documentation for the specified equivalent.
Are Shinkawa VM-5 and VM-7 modules interchangeable?
No. VM-5 and VM-7 are separate monitor generations with their own racks, modules and configuration methods, so a VM-7 module cannot be plugged into a VM-5 rack. To keep a VM-5 system running you need the same module type with the same option code. For a system upgrade, the full rack configuration has to be reviewed.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of Shinkawa?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier and is not an authorized distributor, agent or service center for Shinkawa. We source Shinkawa sensors, monitor modules and accessories through commercial channels, check the model code against the manufacturer's documentation, and provide the manufacturer's specification sheet and issued certificates with the order on request.
