3500/15 AC/DC Power Supply Module

Description

Overview

The Bently Nevada 3500/15 is the AC/DC power supply module for the 3500 series continuous machinery protection rack, providing the regulated power the rack’s monitor and relay modules depend on for uninterrupted vibration and condition monitoring. Offered in universal AC, high-voltage DC, and low-voltage DC input variants, it lets an installation match the power supply to whatever site electrical supply is available.

As a core infrastructure module in the widely deployed Bently Nevada 3500 machinery protection platform, the 3500/15 is engineered for continuous, high-availability operation in critical turbomachinery protection systems. Seven Star LLC supplies the Bently Nevada 3500/15 power supply module as an authorized Bently Nevada/Baker Hughes instrumentation partner to power generation, oil and gas, and process facilities across Oman and the GCC.

Operating Principle

The 3500/15 converts the site’s available AC or DC supply into the regulated power the 3500 rack’s monitor and relay modules require, with a front-panel Supply OK LED giving an immediate visual health indication. When two power supplies are installed in a rack, the module in the lower slot acts as primary and the module in the upper slot as backup, with either supply removable or insertable without disrupting rack operation — critical for maintaining continuous machinery protection during maintenance.

Engineering Design of the Bently Nevada 3500/15

Three input variants are available: universal AC (110–220VAC nominal, 85–264VAC operating range in non-hazardous areas or 85–250VAC in hazardous areas, 47–63Hz) drawing up to 2.8A rms full-rack current; high-voltage DC (88–140VDC) drawing up to 2.5A; and low-voltage DC (20–30VDC) drawing up to 11.0A. The power supply module measures 120.7mm (H) × 50.8mm (W) × 251.5mm (D) and weighs 1.39kg, with a separate power input module (120.7mm × 25.4mm × 114.3mm, 0.34kg) installing directly behind it as a half-height module on the left side of the rack.

Key Features

  • Universal AC, high-voltage DC, or low-voltage DC input variants
  • 1:1 primary/backup redundancy when two supplies installed
  • Hot-swappable, no rack disruption on removal/insertion
  • Front-panel Supply OK LED
  • Up to 11.0A output on low-voltage DC variant
  • Half-height module, left-side rack mounting
  • Designed for continuous, high-availability machinery protection
  • Compatible with the full Bently Nevada 3500 rack platform

Industrial Applications

The 3500/15 is used to power Bently Nevada 3500 machinery protection racks monitoring critical turbines, compressors, pumps, and generators across power generation, oil and gas, and petrochemical facilities in Muscat, Sohar, and Salalah, where continuous vibration and position monitoring is a safety and reliability requirement.

Across the GCC’s power and process industries, the 3500/15’s redundant dual-supply capability directly supports the high-availability requirements of critical machinery protection systems, where a power supply failure must never interrupt the continuous monitoring that trips a machine before a vibration or thrust-related failure causes catastrophic damage.
