Overview

The Bently Nevada 149992-02 is the spare 16-Channel Failsafe Relay Output Module for the 3500/33 16-Channel Relay Module. The 3500/33 is a full-height module that provides 16 relay outputs in a 3500 machinery protection rack; it consists of a main (relay control) module in a front slot and a relay output I/O module in the rear slot. The 149992-02 is the rear I/O module used in the failsafe configuration (3500/33-02-XX).

Any number of 3500/33 modules can be installed in slots to the right of the Transient Data Interface (TDI). Each relay has its own Alarm Drive Logic, programmed with AND/OR logic in the 3500 Rack Configuration Software using alert and danger statuses, Not-OK and individual measured variables from any monitor channel in the rack.

3500/33 Ordering Information and Part Numbers

The relay module is ordered as 3500/33 AA-BB. Field A selects the output module: 01 is the 16-Channel Relay Output Module, 02 is the 16-Channel Failsafe Relay Output Module, 03 is the Low Current 16-Channel Relay Output Module and 04 is the Low Current 16-Channel Failsafe Relay Output Module. Field B is the hazardous area approval: 00 none, 01 cNRTLus (Class 1, Division 2) and 02 ATEX / IECEx / CSA (Class 1, Zone 2). Part 149992-02 is therefore the rear output module that corresponds to ordering option A02.

The spares list has one front card and four rear modules. 149986-01 is the Spare 16-Channel Relay Control Module. 149992-01 is the Spare 16-Channel Relay Output Module, 149992-02 the Spare 16-Channel Failsafe Relay Output Module, 149992-03 the Spare 16-Channel Low Current Relay Output Module and 149992-04 the Spare 16-Channel Low Current Failsafe Relay Output Module. Accessories are 00580453 (connector header, internal termination, 16-position, green), 166M2381 (push-in-spring header, alternative to 00580453) and 162291 (16-Channel Relay Module User Guide).

Choosing between standard and low current versions depends on the load. Standard modules use silver contacts with a minimum switched load of 100 mA at 5 Vdc, whereas the low current modules use gold-plated contacts rated from 1 mA at 1 Vdc up to 100 mA at 48 Vdc. For loads near the boundary between the two regions, Bently Nevada advises selecting the low current option, because contacts whose gold plating has been damaged by excess load continue to behave as ordinary silver contacts.

3500/33 Voltage Limits in Hazardous Area and Safety Systems

The contact ratings that apply depend on how the module is ordered and used. In standard systems the relays can switch up to 125 Vdc or 250 Vac at 5 A resistive. For failsafe and hazardous area systems the limit drops to 30 Vdc at 5 A resistive. Zone 2 standards demand wider spacing at higher voltages than the module provides, so a unit ordered with the multiple approvals option (-02) is restricted to the lower voltage, and exceeding it violates the hazardous area certificates. The CSA-only option (-01) has been de-rated to 30 Vrms.

When the module forms part of a functional safety (SIL) system, the functional safety certificate also requires the restricted voltage, and higher voltages are not permitted. On the software side, the module needs 3500 Rack Configuration version 3.3, 3500 Data Acquisition version 2.40 and 3500 Data Display version 1.40 or later. Normally De-energized or Normally Energized operation is set by switches in four groups of four channels, so plan relay assignments in blocks of four when some outputs must be energize-to-trip and others de-energize-to-trip.
