Turck FCI-D04A4P-AP8X-H1141 Inline Flow Sensor

Description

Inline calorimetric flow monitor for small liquid flows

The Turck FCI-D04A4P-AP8X-H1141 is an inline flow sensor with an integrated processor for liquid media. It works on the calorimetric principle: heat generated in a measuring tube is absorbed by the flowing medium, and the heat loss is a measure of flow velocity. Turck describes these wear-free sensors as having a low pressure drop and a fast response to flow changes.

The operating range is 0.01 to 1 litre per minute, which suits lubrication circuits, small cooling loops, dosing lines and sampling lines. The set point is adjusted with a potentiometer and an LED band shows whether the flow is below, at or above the set point.

Approvals cULus

Because a calorimetric sensor responds to heat transfer, the reading depends on the thermal properties of the liquid. Set the potentiometer with the real fluid at its normal temperature and flow, rather than relying on a bench setting with water, and recheck the set point if the fluid or its temperature changes. The data sheet lists UL registration E210608 for the cULus approval.

Setting and indication

Adjustment is by potentiometer, so no separate programming tool is needed. The LED chain shows the flow state: the red LED indicates a flow below the set point, the yellow LED indicates the set point has been reached and four green LEDs indicate the set point is exceeded.

After power-up the sensor needs a stand-by time of 5 to 15 seconds before it is ready, and the on and off delays are 0.5 to 1 second. These times matter if the sensor is used as an interlock for a pump or a lubrication unit.

Selecting and installing the sensor

Confirm that the medium is compatible with 316Ti stainless steel and stays within 0 to 80 degrees C, and that the maximum flow does not exceed 1 litre per minute. For higher flows, ask for a larger FCI or FCS variant rather than operating outside the range.

Mount the sensor in a pipeline with the G1/4 connection and observe the maximum tightening torque of 30 Nm for the housing nut. The sensor is a general industrial device with a cULus listing and is not certified for hazardous areas.

About brand

Turck sensor type codes look cryptic, yet each block of letters and digits describes the part. Founded in 1965 and based in Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany, the company makes sensors, connectors, I/O and interface devices for factory and process automation. Seven Star LLC lists the Turck BI5-M18-AP6X-H1141 inductive proximity sensor and the CMVT-QR20 vibration and temperature sensor, and supplies Turck sensors in Oman and the GCC.

Turck sensors listed here

In BI5-M18-AP6X-H1141, BI is a flush-mountable inductive sensor, 5 is the rated switching distance in millimeters and M18 is the threaded barrel. AP6X is a three-wire DC output, PNP normally open, and H1141 is the M12 connector. The CMVT-QR20 is a small rectangular sensor that measures vibration together with temperature and reports both over IO-Link for condition monitoring.

Ordering Turck sensors: what we need

Send the full type code and the ID number printed on the sensor or its bag label. If the label is lost, give the housing size, flush or non-flush mounting, output type, supply voltage and connection.
