Measurement Principle

The Endress+Hauser Levelflex FMP51 operates on the time-domain reflectometry (guided radar) principle. A low-energy microwave pulse is launched down a probe – rod, rope, or coax – that extends into the vessel; when the pulse reaches the surface of the medium, part of its energy is reflected back and the time-of-flight is measured to determine the exact level.

Because the signal is guided along the probe rather than radiating freely through the vessel headspace, measurement is not affected by changing media properties, temperature changes, gas blankets, or vapors.
