Orbitalum GFX 3.0 Pipe Cutting and Beveling Machine

Description

Overview

The Orbitalum GFX 3.0 is a compact pipe cutting and beveling machine for tubes from 6.0 to 78.0 mm outside diameter. It belongs to the GFX series of saws from Orbitalum Tools, which the manufacturer describes as easy to operate, powerful and light, and able to cut and bevel pipes and cut off tube elbows in seconds, even on thin-walled special steel. The cut is right-angled, burr-free and cold, which is exactly the end preparation an automated orbital weld needs.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Orbitalum GFX 3.0 to fabricators, installers and maintenance teams in Oman and the GCC, backed by engineering support in Muscat. We share the official Orbitalum datasheet, which covers both the GFX 3.0 and its larger sibling the GFX 6.6, so engineers can compare the two before choosing a machine.

Operating Principle

The GFX saws work with the orbital, or planetary, cutting principle typical of Orbitalum pipe saws. In general terms, the pipe is clamped in a vice and stays still, while a small circular saw blade plunges into the wall and is guided around the circumference. Because only a small blade is used and the process runs at low speed, the cut stays cold: there is no heat tint, no sparks and no change to the metallurgy of stainless tube, unlike abrasive cutting. The result is a square, burr-free face that can go straight to welding with little or no rework.

On the Orbitalum GFX 3.0 the drive delivers 1,200 W with electronic speed regulation and speed stabilisation from 30 to 200 rpm, so the operator can match the cutting speed to the material. The manufacturer lists unalloyed, low-alloyed and high-alloyed steel, special steel, non-ferrous aluminium alloys, titanium alloys, composites and plastic as processable materials. Beveling of the pipe end can be done during the cutting process or as a separate step, and a second saw blade position allows tube elbows to be cut off.

Engineering Design of the Orbitalum GFX 3.0

A redesigned vice with steel sliding clamping jaws and sets of stainless steel caps clamps the tube without deforming it, even when the wall is thin, and optimises chip flow. An integrated line laser marks the cut-off point on the tube. The motor has an ergonomic handle, an ergonomically placed speed wheel, electronic overload protection with integrated temperature monitoring and tachometer control, and the GF10 drive, which Orbitalum says extends tool service life. The swivel cable connects with a quick-release screw coupler, so it can be replaced quickly in the field.

The Orbitalum GFX 3.0 measures 570 × 330 × 280 mm and weighs 28.5 kg including the vice, so one person can move it between workstations. It can be mounted directly on a workbench without a quick-mounting plate, and optional quick-mounting plates with screw clamps or an aluminium tripod (shared with the PS 4.5 Plus) are available. The machine is double-insulated to protection class II and is offered in 230 V and 120 V, 50/60 Hz single-phase versions.

Key Features

The manufacturer highlights these benefits of the Orbitalum GFX 3.0:

  • Right-angled, burr-free and cold cutting that prepares tube ends for automated orbital welding.
  • Deformation-free clamping of thin-walled pipes with steel sliding jaws and stainless steel caps.
  • Pipe outside diameter range of 6.0 to 78.0 mm and wall thickness from 0.8 to 7.0 mm.
  • Beveling of pipe ends during cutting or as a separate operation.
  • Additional saw blade position for cutting off tube elbows, useful for press-fit systems.
  • Integrated line laser for marking the cut-off point.
  • 1,200 W drive with adjustable speed from 30 to 200 rpm and electronic overload protection.
  • Low maintenance and service-friendly design, delivered in a transportation case.

Industrial Applications

Orbitalum states that GFX applications lie mainly in the food processing, beverage, pharmaceutical and chemical industries, where hygienic stainless tubing is joined by orbital welding or press fitting. In Oman and the GCC the Orbitalum GFX 3.0 is equally relevant to instrument tubing and small-bore utility lines in oil and gas, power and desalination plants, and to building services contractors installing stainless press-fit water systems in hospitals, hotels and commercial towers in Muscat, Sohar and Salalah.

Because the saw is light and quick to set up, it fits both a prefabrication shop and a site container. Seven Star LLC supplies the Orbitalum GFX 3.0 together with saw blades and lubricant from Muscat. Shops that pair the saw with welding equipment often look at the Lincoln Electric Power Wave S500, the ESAB Rebel EMP 285ic and the LongTeng EL8; the full range of end-prep machines is in our pipe cutting and bevelling machines category.

Saw Blade Selection

Orbitalum lists two saw blade diameters for the Orbitalum GFX 3.0. With the 63 mm blade the full 6.0 to 78.0 mm outside diameter range is available, and with the 68 mm blade the range is 6.0 to 73.0 mm. For both blades the datasheet lists the minimum pipe inside diameter as 0 mm, so even very small tubes are within reach. Blade tooth form and lubricant matter as much as the machine: GF TOP lubricant is included in the scope of delivery, and using it consistently helps keep the cut clean and extends blade life on stainless steel.

GFX 3.0 or GFX 6.6

The datasheet presents the GFX 6.6 as the larger model for pipe outside diameters from 21.3 to 168.3 mm with the same 0.8 to 7.0 mm wall range and 1,200 W drive, at 74.4 kg including vice and supplied with a quick-mounting plate. If most of your work is tubing up to about 3 inch, the Orbitalum GFX 3.0 is the lighter, more portable choice; for 4 to 6 inch lines the GFX 6.6 is the better match.
