Tri Tool 208B BEVELMASTER Pipe Beveling Machine

Description

An ID-mounted lathe for 2 to 8 in pipe ends

The Tri Tool 208B BEVELMASTER is a portable, ID-mounting weld end preparation machine tool for beveling, facing and counterboring 2 in through 8 in pipe. In the air version described by this technical specification, the feed knob sits in line at the back of the machine and the pneumatic drive motor is mounted at a right angle to the lathe head.

The lathe reacts its own cutting torque through the mandrel, and the expanding mandrel centres and aligns the tool in the bore. All wrenches needed for operation are supplied with the system, tool bits excepted. At about 25.4 kg (56 lb), the lathe is light enough to be handled by one operator.

Cutting capacities and materials

Tri Tool rates the 208B for 1.5 in pipe in schedules 5 and 10, 2 in pipe from schedule 5 through schedule 160, and 3 in through 8 in pipe in all schedules, up to a maximum wall of 22.2 mm (0.875 in). With the standard mandrel it can also bevel tubing up to 22.2 mm wall with a maximum OD of 219.2 mm (8.63 in) and a minimum ID of 41.4 mm (1.63 in). Counterboring covers inside diameters from 50.8 to 211.6 mm (2.00–8.33 in).

The machine cuts mild steels, chrome steels up to Rc 35, stainless steel, copper-nickel and aluminium within the size and wall limits. Inconel and some other high-temperature alloys may need special procedures, depending on the wall thickness and the end preparation, and Tri Tool’s engineering department advises on these cases.

Setting up for site work

The air motor needs 85 cfm at 90 psi for full horsepower, and the air supply must pass through a filter, regulator and lubricator to keep the motor warranty valid. Size the compressor and hose for that flow before the machine goes to site.

The system is delivered complete with the 208B sub-assembly, tool holder assembly, mandrel assembly, air motor assembly, jaw block assembly sets, shipping kit, carrying case and operator’s manual. A flange facer kit and an elbow mandrel kit are listed as accessories. Tool bits are chosen by end preparation profile and material and are ordered separately.

Tri Tool also publishes separate technical specifications for hydraulic and electric versions of the 208B. This page covers the air model; confirm the drive before ordering spare parts.

About brand
Tri Tool designs portable precision machine tools for weld end preparation and on-site machining, and its history goes back to 1972, when the company was co-founded by Dr. George J. Wernette. It works from Rancho Cordova, California. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists the Tri Tool 208B BEVELMASTER pipe beveling machine and sources Tri Tool equipment for piping contractors. Tri Tool product groups The catalogue covers pipe beveling machines, pipe facing tools including offshore versions, tube facing and squaring tools, tube severing tools, heat exchanger tube facing tools, hydraulic power units and Walhonde line-up clamps. Alongside the standard machines the company offers custom-engineered tools, field machining services and equipment rentals, with applications in power generation, oil and gas, aerospace and government work. Ordering Tri Tool machines: what we need State the model and the drive (air, hydraulic or electric), the pipe size and schedule range, the material and the end preparation you need, such as bevel, compound bevel, facing or counterbore. Tool bits are profile-specific, so give the bevel angle and land, or the Tri Tool part number.

Frequently Asked Questions

What pipe sizes does the 208B handle?
2 in through 8 in pipe: 3–8 in in all schedules, 2 in from schedule 5 to 160, and 1.5 in in schedules 5 and 10.
How much air does the 208B Air need?
85 cfm (40 L/s) at 90 psi (621 kPa), supplied through a filter, regulator and lubricator.
Can the 208B counterbore as well as bevel?
Yes. It bevels, faces and counterbores; the counterbore range is 2.00–8.33 in ID.
Are tool bits included?
No. Wrenches are supplied with the system, but tool bits are ordered separately by profile.
Can it machine Inconel?
Inconel and some high-temperature alloys may need special procedures. Tri Tool engineering defines these by wall thickness and end preparation.
