E.H. Wachs EP 424 AutoFeed ID-Mount End Prep Machine
Description
Heavy-wall end preparation without templates
The E.H. Wachs EP 424 is an ID-mounted end prep machine for bevelling, compound bevelling, J-prep, facing and counterboring pipe, fittings and valves. Its AutoFeed system advances the tool in the axial and radial planes at the same time, so any bevel or compound bevel can be dialled in on the machine without profile templates, incline tool slides or stopping the cut. That makes it a practical choice where heavy-wall or high-alloy pipe has to be prepared to a tight weld-profile specification.
The machine mounts on the pipe bore with self-centring mandrels. In single-point mode it works pipe from 4 to 24 in OD (DN100 to DN600) up to a 6.5 in (165 mm) wall; with form tooling it covers 4 to 16 in OD (DN100 to DN400) through Schedule 160. It is also offered without AutoFeed as a basic form-tool machine and as a flange facer.

Choosing between the EP 424 versions
| Version | What is included | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Form Tool Basic (w/o AutoFeed) | Standard mandrel; AutoFeed upgrade kit available | Form tooling and flange facing |
| Single Point Deluxe | Standard mandrel and AutoFeed | Single-point bevels and compound bevels |
| Single Point Premium | Standard, elbow and independent mandrels with AutoFeed | Fittings, elbows and valves as well as straight pipe |
Every set ships with the standard mandrel, an extension-leg kit, a heavy-duty storage case, hand tools and the operating manual. Options listed by Wachs include electric drive motors, an independent mandrel, a short-perch mandrel, a 36 in single-pointing slide, interchangeable tooling mounts and Wachs tooling.
What to settle before ordering
Decide the drive first. The hydraulic version needs a power unit rated for 10 gpm at 1,500 psi, the pneumatic version needs 95 cfm at 90 psi, and the electric options need either a 110 V supply for the Eibenstock drive or the 440 V servo drive. Then confirm pipe bore and wall against the 4 to 24 in single-point range, whether form tooling is wanted, and whether fittings or valves require the elbow or independent mandrel.
Bevel geometry is set by tooling, so give the weld-prep drawing: bevel angle, land, J-radius or counterbore depth, and the material grade, so the correct inserts can be specified. The datasheet notes that capacity varies with the application and tooling.
Documents and quotation

About brand
E.H. Wachs makes portable machine tools for cold cutting and weld preparation of pipe, tube and pressure vessels. The company dates back to 1883, works from Lincolnshire, Illinois, and is a division of ITW. It is best known for the Trav-L-Cutter pipe cutter introduced in 1949 and for its Guillotine reciprocating pipe saws. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists E.H. Wachs machines for contractors and plant owners who need precise end preparation on site.
E.H. Wachs product groups
The catalogue covers handheld ID-mount bevellers such as the SDB series, the EP 424 end prep machine with AutoFeed, split frames from the small SDSF through DynaPrep MDSF to the large LDSF, Trav-L-Cutter chain-mounted milling machines, Guillotine pipe saws, flange facers, casing cutters and hydraulic power units. Many machines are also offered as rentals.
Ordering Wachs machines: what we need
State the model and drive (air, hydraulic or electric), the pipe diameter and wall thickness range, the material, and the weld preparation you need, such as bevel angle, compound bevel, J-prep or counterbore. Tooling is profile-specific, so give the bevel drawing or the Wachs tooling part number.

It feeds the tool axially and radially at the same time so any bevel or compound bevel can be set on a dial, without templates or incline slides.
Hydraulic, pneumatic, 110 V electric (Eibenstock) and a 440 V servo electric drive, as listed on the datasheet.
Yes. The basic form-tool model without AutoFeed is offered for form tooling and flange facing.
Each module is under 70 lb (31.75 kg) and the full set with storage case weighs 178 lb (80.7 kg).
