Brand: E.H. Wachs
E.H. Wachs SDB 206/2 Small Diameter Pipe Beveller
Description
A handheld end-prep machine that clamps inside the pipe
The E.H. Wachs SDB 206/2 is a handheld beveling and prepping machine for pipe and tube ends. Its three-leg chuck expands inside the bore and centres itself, so the cutter head runs true to the pipe axis and one operator can face, bevel, deburr, compound bevel, J-prep and counterbore in a single set-up. It works on carbon, stainless and high-alloy steels and is used on boiler tube, heavy-wall pipe, thin-wall stainless tubing and, with the optional fitting mandrel, on elbows.
The standard mandrel covers pipe from 2.27 to 6.77 in inside diameter (57.66 to 171.96 mm) with walls up to 0.75 in (19.05 mm). The housing is cast aluminium with heat-treated ring and pinion gears on tapered roller bearings, which keeps the machine light enough to carry to the joint while still pulling heavy-wall cuts.

Where it sits in the SDB range
| Model | Pipe range (series table) | Drive options |
|---|---|---|
| SDB 103/3 | 0.875 in ID to 4.5 in OD (22.2 to 114 mm) | Pneumatic, electric |
| SDB 206/2 | 1.91 in ID to 6.625 in OD (48.5 to 168 mm) | Pneumatic, hydraulic, electric |
| SDB 412/2 | 3.80 in ID to 12.75 in OD (96.5 to 323.9 mm) | Pneumatic, hydraulic, electric |
Choose the 206/2 when the pipe sits between the small-bore 103/3 and the larger 412/2, for example 3 in to 6 in process piping and boiler tube. For tight bores the optional small mandrel reaches down to 1.91 in ID, and the extended-range kits push the upper limit past 9 in ID.
Selection and set-up notes
Pick the drive from the power available at the joint: the air version needs 70 cfm at 90 psi, the hydraulic version 8 gpm at 1,500 psi, and the electric version a 110 V or 220 V supply. Quick-change extension legs with captivated fasteners let the machine be mounted in under five minutes, tool bits are changed in seconds, and a fail-safe on-off motor valve stops the cutter when the operator lets go. The machine ships in a job-site storage case with the standard mandrel, a complete extension-leg set, operating tools and the owner manual.
Before ordering confirm the bore, wall and material, whether elbows or flanges are involved (fitting mandrel and facing kit are separate items), and which tool profile you need, since inserts are bevel-specific. Wachs also offers re-sharpening with a 24-hour turnaround and short-term rental, noted on its datasheet.
Documents and quotation
The manufacturer datasheet for the SDB 206/2 is available on this page. See more weld-preparation equipment in Pipe Cutting & Bevelling Machines, or compare the ID-clamping Promotech PRO-5 PB pipe beveller.
For a quotation send the pipe diameter and wall range, the material, the bevel profile, the preferred drive and supply, and any elbow or flange work.

About brand
E.H. Wachs makes portable machine tools for cold cutting and weld preparation of pipe, tube and pressure vessels. The company dates back to 1883, works from Lincolnshire, Illinois, and is a division of ITW. It is best known for the Trav-L-Cutter pipe cutter and for its Guillotine reciprocating pipe saws. Seven Star LLC, an independent supplier in Muscat, lists E.H. Wachs machines for contractors and plant owners who need precise end preparation on site.
E.H. Wachs product groups
The catalogue covers handheld ID-mount bevellers such as the SDB series, the EP 424 end prep machine with AutoFeed, split frames from the small SDSF through DynaPrep MDSF to the large LDSF, Trav-L-Cutter chain-mounted milling machines, Guillotine pipe saws, flange facers, casing cutters and hydraulic power units. Many machines are also offered as rentals.
Ordering Wachs machines: what we need
State the model and drive (air, hydraulic or electric), the pipe diameter and wall thickness range, the material, and the weld preparation you need, such as bevel angle, compound bevel, J-prep or counterbore. Tooling is profile-specific, so give the bevel drawing or the Wachs tooling part number.
