Orbitalum ORBIWELD 12 Micro Orbital Weld Head

Description

Narrow micro weld head for fittings in tight spaces

The Orbitalum ORBIWELD 12 (OW 12, code 821 000 010) is a closed orbital TIG weld head for tube from 3.0 to 12.7 mm OD. Its extremely narrow construction and liquid cooling let it weld micro fittings repeatably at currents that would overheat many heads of this size. It is used for gas and liquid lines in semiconductor fabs, aerospace systems, pharmaceutical plants and high-purity water supply, where lines run close together and clamping lengths are short.

A control panel in the aluminium handle passes weld commands to the power source, so no separate remote control is needed. Electricity, gas and coolant connections are integrated in the head, and the 7.5 m hose package with strain relief can be extended up to 20 m.

Cassettes, inserts and productivity options

Removable clamping cassettes align the two parts precisely before welding and change without tools. Type A cassettes are stainless steel with a FlipCover that lets the operator check and correct the electrode position; one cassette is needed for each tube diameter, from 2.00 mm through 3.00, 3.18, 6.00, 6.35, 8.00, 9.53, 10.00 and 12.00 to 12.70 mm. Type B cassettes take aluminium clamping inserts, which lowers cost when many diameters are welded on standard tube.

The optional ORBITWIN switching unit connects two heads to one power source and lets them be used alternately, so one head can be loaded while the other welds. Other accessories include a table mount, ESG electrode grinders, the ORBmax residual oxygen meter, ORBIPURGE purging sets, hose package extensions and WS2 tungsten electrodes.

Electrode gap depends on cassette type and on whether a fitting or a plain tube is clamped, so the dimension table on page 2 of the datasheet should be followed when the gap is set with the supplied feeler gauge. As with any closed head, weld quality also depends on a clean square tube end, correct purge of the tube bore and a properly ground electrode, which is why a pipe facing tool, purge equipment and an electrode grinder are usually ordered together with the head.

How the ORBIWELD 12 Works

The ORBIWELD 12 is a liquid-cooled closed orbital weld head from Orbitalum for small tubes from 3.00 to 12.70 mm outside diameter. The tube is clamped in cassettes and enclosed in a shielding gas chamber, while the rotor carries the tungsten electrode around the joint. Liquid cooling keeps the head at a stable temperature during series production, which supports consistent weld quality from the first joint to the last.

The control panel is integrated into the aluminium handle, so the operator can start the weld and move the electrode without reaching for the power source. Cassettes can be changed without tools. Two cassette types are available: Type A, a slim cassette with a flip cover for tight installation spaces, and Type B, which uses inserts to adapt to different tube diameters. The ORBITWIN option is also offered for the head.

Selection & Ordering Guide

To order an ORBIWELD 12 set-up, list the tube diameters you weld, choose Type A or Type B cassettes, and confirm the power source and cooling unit. Clamping inserts are needed for each tube size used with Type B cassettes. Our team can help confirm the correct ordering code.

Installation & Maintenance

Use high-purity argon, check the coolant flow before welding, and keep the clamping surfaces and gas chamber clean. Inspect and regrind tungsten electrodes to the correct geometry and length, and protect the head from impact when not in use.

Typical Applications in Oman & the GCC

Typical uses include instrumentation and hydraulic tubing, semiconductor and analytical gas lines, pharmaceutical and biotech systems, and high-purity water installations where small stainless steel tubes must be joined with repeatable, clean welds.

Because the head is closed and gas shielded, the inside and outside of the joint stay protected from oxidation, which is important for corrosion-resistant stainless tubing in hot and humid GCC conditions.

Why Source from Seven Star LLC

Seven Star LLC supplies Orbitalum orbital weld heads and power sources across Oman and the GCC. Request a quote with your tube sizes, and our team can help confirm the correct ordering code for the ORBIWELD 12.

Operators new to orbital welding benefit from the ORBIWELD 12 handle controls and quick cassette change, because set-up time between tube sizes is reduced and the risk of misaligned clamping is lower. Weld procedures can be qualified once and then repeated across a whole installation with the same power source program.

About brand

Orbitalum Tools makes machines for tube and pipe preparation and orbital welding: pipe saws, cutting and beveling machines, end prep machines, orbital weld heads and orbital welding power sources. The business is based in Singen, Germany, and was formerly the pipe-joining technology business of Georg Fischer. It was sold to a subsidiary of Illinois Tool Works (ITW) in January 2013 and renamed Orbitalum on 1 October 2013; it now operates with E.H. Wachs as ITW Orbital Cutting & Welding.

Seven Star LLC supplies Orbitalum pipe saws, tube facing machines and orbital welding systems to fabricators and site contractors in Oman, and many of these machines are listed on this page.

Orbitalum cutting, facing and welding machines

The listing follows the workflow on the tube. Cutting comes first: the GFX 3.0 pipe cutting and beveling machine and the portable PS 4.5 Plus pipe saw. The RPG 4.5 then squares and faces the tube end ready for a butt weld without filler.

On the welding side, the Mobile Welder and Smart Welder Plus are orbital TIG power sources that store and run the weld program. They drive the weld heads:

  • ORBIWELD 17 and ORBIWELD 19, enclosed micro heads for small-bore tube
  • ORBIWELD TP, an open head for pipe
  • P16 EVO, for tube-to-tube-sheet welds
  • DVR M, a rotary device that turns the workpiece under a fixed torch

Where Orbitalum equipment is used

Orbital welding and tube preparation of this kind are used wherever a weld has to be repeatable and documented: semiconductor gas lines, pharmaceutical and biotech process piping, food and beverage plants and heat exchanger manufacturing. In the GCC that translates into clean utility and process piping in pharmaceutical and dairy plants, instrument and analyzer tubing, gas distribution lines and tube-sheet work on heat exchangers.

Ordering Orbitalum machines: what we need

Tell us the tube or pipe outside diameter range, wall thickness and material first, because every Orbitalum machine has a defined working range. For a saw or facing machine, add the mains voltage or battery version and the blade or tool bit type. For welding, state the joint type (tube to tube, fitting, tube sheet), whether filler wire is needed, the power source you already own and the clamping shells or collets by diameter. For spare parts, send the machine type, serial number and the part code from the manual. We check the selection against the manufacturer's documentation.
