Promotech PRO-5 PB Portable Pipe Beveller

An ID-clamping beveller for small-bore pipe and tube

The Promotech PRO-5 PB is a portable pipe bevelling machine for milling the ends of pipes and tubes made of carbon and stainless steels, aluminium alloys and copper-nickel. It clamps inside the pipe on a self-centring expandable mandrel, which aligns the machine to the bore before cutting starts, and one operator can set it up and run it.

Depending on the tool bits fitted, the machine performs external bevelling, J-bevelling, internal calibration and facing. Up to three tool bits can be mounted and cut at the same time. The standard working range runs from 32 mm (1.26 in) inside diameter to 114 mm (4.49 in) outside diameter, and an optional extension set with a 140 mm spindle disc takes the outside diameter to 140 mm (5.51 in).

One machine body, three drive options

Promotech offers the PRO-5 PB with an electric motor, a pneumatic motor or a battery drive. The electric version uses a 1,100 W two-gear motor with 0–113 rpm in first gear and 0–318 rpm in second gear, for 110–120 V or 220–240 V single-phase supplies at 50–60 Hz. The pneumatic version has an 800 W motor with a nominal speed of 90 rpm and needs air at 0.6 MPa (87 psi) with a consumption of 1,400 l/min (50 CFM). The battery version runs from an 18 V DC (4.0, 5.5 or 10.0 Ah) pack.

The standard shipping set is supplied without a motor and without tool bits, so the drive is chosen and ordered as a separate item together with its connection set.

Choosing the mandrel, drive and tool bits

Start from the pipe. The inside diameter decides which mandrel is needed: the standard mandrel covers ID 32–107 mm, with optional small and large mandrels either side. The outside diameter and wall decide whether the standard 118 mm spindle disc is enough or the 140 mm extension set is required, and the permitted wall thickness falls in steps as the outside diameter rises above 114 mm.

Choose the drive by site conditions. The pneumatic motor needs a compressed-air supply able to deliver 1,400 l/min at 0.6 MPa, the electric motor needs the matching single-phase voltage, and the battery drive avoids both cables and hoses. For tubes in tight spaces, Promotech lists a 75 mm spindle disc and a ratchet wrench; the minimum distance between tubes is then 75 mm.

The standard set contains a plastic box, the standard mandrel, the 118 mm spindle disc, three sets of jaw blocks, a set of tools, a coolant container and the operator’s manual. Tool bits are ordered separately by profile and material: Promotech lists 0° facing bits, 30°, 37.5° and 45° bevelling bits, J-bevelling bits and internal calibration bits, with TiAlN-coated versions for stainless steel.
