Kidde ModuLaser Modular Aspirating Smoke Detection System

Description

Zoned aspirating smoke detection built from modules

The Kidde ModuLaser is a scalable aspirating smoke detection solution built from two kinds of module: a display module and a detector module. Each detector module draws air through up to 250 m (820 ft) of combined sampling pipe, analyzes it with laser light scattering, and uses ClassiFire logic to decide whether to raise a pre-alarm or alarm. The datasheet describes it as virtually impervious to dust and dirt, suitable for environments that disable other smoke detectors.

Why modular matters

Each detector module is self-contained, so the alarm relay of a zone identifies which sampling pipe saw smoke without a wait. Routine filter replacement can be done module by module, leaving only one zone unprotected at a time. Detector modules dock into a backplane, which lets them be removed during installation to avoid damage. Three relays per detector report trouble, pre-alarm and fire, and extra relays are available on the backplanes.

ModuLaser connects to Kidde conventional and addressable control units through its relay contacts, either to an initiating device circuit or, with addressable panels, to an addressable input module on the signaling line circuit. Pipe layouts should be designed with the PipeCAD tool, as the datasheet says, which also classifies the configuration.

What to confirm before ordering

Choose the version by approvals: KID-ULF for UL, ULC and FM projects, KID-EN for EN54-20. Define the number of zones, the pipe lengths and hole counts, the display module type, and the panel interface. Spare covers, grommets, pipe adapters, accessory kits and filters have separate numbers in the datasheet. Pipe design and sensitivity setup belong to the fire detection designer.

About brand

Kidde is a fire protection brand founded in 1917 in New Jersey by engineer Walter Kidde. After buying the rights to a steam-based shipboard fire system, Kidde replaced the steam with carbon dioxide, and the company went on to build the first portable CO2 extinguisher and the first built-in industrial CO2 system in the mid-1920s. Since December 2024 the Kidde brand has belonged to Kidde Global Solutions.

Seven Star LLC lists Kidde clean agent cylinders, control heads and pilot cylinders, and supplies Kidde fire systems parts to operators and fire contractors in Oman as an independent supplier. Household smoke alarms and aircraft systems sold under the same name are outside our scope.

Ordering Kidde parts: what we need

Kidde components are ordered by part number, so send it exactly as printed on the label or in the system drawings. For an agent cylinder we also need the fill weight, valve type and the transport documents required. Send the nameplate photo and the system design reference whenever possible.

Facts checked against Kidde's own history pages (kidde.com) and published company histories, October 2026.
