Overview

Measurement and Operating Principle

The CP416 uses light-scattering (optical/photoelectric) smoke detection. An infrared LED emitter and photodiode receiver are mounted within the MASC™ chamber at an offset angle so that, under clear-air conditions, no light reaches the receiver. When smoke particles enter the chamber, they scatter the infrared light onto the photodiode, and the resulting signal is proportional to smoke density, expressed in obscuration per metre (dB/m). The detector’s default configuration operates in Mode 2 (Normal Sensitivity), triggering at approximately 0.24dB/m (5.4%) obscuration, with a High Sensitivity mode available for applications requiring earlier warning.

AFFIRM™ signal processing continuously analyzes the rate of change and pattern of the scattered-light signal, distinguishing the signature of a developing fire from the slower, more erratic signal typical of dust ingress, insect activity, or steam. Engineering Design of the C-TEC CP416

The CP416 houses its MASC™ optical chamber, onboard microprocessor, and short-circuit isolator within a low-profile plastic enclosure fitted with two ultra-bright red LED indicator strips, visible from a wide viewing angle to aid rapid identification during patrol or alarm response.
