Danfoss EV220B 15-50 Servo-Operated Solenoid Valve

Description

Overview

The Danfoss EV220B 15–50 is a universal servo-operated 2/2-way solenoid valve programme for water, steam, oil, compressed air and neutral gases, in sizes DN 15 to DN 50 with G½ to G2 threaded connections. Danfoss builds the Danfoss EV220B with valve bodies in brass, dezincification-resistant (DZR) brass or stainless steel, with a built-in pilot filter as standard, water-hammer damping and coil enclosures up to IP67, so one valve family covers utility water, plant air, lube oil and many process liquids.

Seven Star LLC supplies the Danfoss EV220B and its coils to plant operators, contractors and OEMs in the Sultanate of Oman and across the GCC, with engineering support in Muscat. We help buyers choose the right body material, seal and coil for each medium and voltage, and keep common sizes available for fast maintenance replacement.

Operating Principle

The Danfoss EV220B is an indirect, servo-operated valve: the coil moves only a small pilot, and the line pressure does the work of opening the main diaphragm. In the normally closed version, with the coil de-energised the armature spring presses the valve plate onto the pilot orifice; pressure builds up above the diaphragm through the equalising orifice and holds the main orifice shut. When the coil is energised, the pilot orifice opens, and because it is larger than the equalising orifice the pressure above the diaphragm falls and the diaphragm lifts clear of the main orifice.

The normally open brass version works the other way round, closing when the coil is energised. Because the valve relies on line pressure, a minimum differential pressure of 0.3 bar is needed to open and hold it open; the maximum opening differential pressure is up to 16 bar depending on size and seal. Closing time can be adjusted by changing the equalising orifice, which is how the Danfoss EV220B limits water hammer in long pipelines.

Engineering Design of the Danfoss EV220B

Internal parts are stainless steel throughout: AISI 430 FR armature and armature stop, AISI 304L armature tube, AISI 301 springs and AISI 316L orifices. Seals, valve plate and diaphragm are available in EPDM for water and drinking water, NBR for oil, water and air, and FKM for oil and air. The stainless steel version uses W.no. 1.4581 for the body, while the DZR brass version uses CuZn36Pb2As for neutral and slightly aggressive liquids.

The valve body and coil are separate, so coils can be changed without opening the pipework. Danfoss lists screw-on BA and clip-on BB, BE, BF, BG, BO, BP and BR coils, with enclosures from IP00 with spade connector up to IP67 with cable plug, terminal box or fixed cable, and power consumption roughly between 8.5 and 17 W depending on type. Dimensions run from 80 mm length and 0.7 kg for DN 15 to 162 mm and 4.8 kg for DN 50, without coil.

Key Features

The Danfoss EV220B programme gives users these practical benefits:

  • One valve family handles water, steam, oil, compressed air and neutral gases in DN 15 to DN 50.
  • Brass, DZR brass and stainless steel bodies cover neutral, slightly aggressive and aggressive media.
  • A built-in pilot filter protects the pilot system from dirt as standard.
  • Water-hammer damping and adjustable closing time protect pipework and fittings.
  • NC and NO functions are available in the brass version.
  • EPDM, NBR and FKM seals match water, oil and air duties at media temperatures from −30 to +120 °C.
  • Interchangeable coils up to IP67, including a marine coil design, suit wet and outdoor locations.
  • Kv values from 4 to 40 m³/h allow sizing for small dosing lines up to main water feeds.

Industrial Applications

The Danfoss EV220B is used to start and stop flow in water treatment and RO pre-treatment skids, cooling water and make-up lines, irrigation and district cooling plant rooms, compressed air distribution, lube oil and hydraulic auxiliary circuits, washing and cleaning machines and low-pressure steam lines up to 140 °C with EPDM. For water service Danfoss recommends a 50 mesh filter upstream, water hardness of 6–18 °dH and conductivity of 50–800 µS/cm for brass bodies, and exercising the valve at least once every 24 hours; with Gulf groundwater and desalinated water these guidelines often point to the stainless steel or DZR version.

In refrigeration plants the Danfoss EVR 25 solenoid valve remains the choice for refrigerant lines, while the Danfoss EV220B handles the water, brine and air side. Pressure monitoring in the same circuits is often done with the Danfoss MBS 3000 pressure transmitter, and sites standardised on other brands may compare it with the ASCO 8210 Series solenoid valve. Seven Star LLC supplies the Danfoss EV220B across Oman and the GCC.

About brand
From its headquarters in Nordborg, Denmark, where it was founded in 1933, Danfoss makes the drives, valves and sensors found in pump rooms, chiller plants and cold stores. Its blue VLT frequency converters are probably the most familiar of them. Seven Star LLC lists Danfoss VLT drives, pressure transmitters, refrigeration valves and HVAC control valves, and supplies them to contractors and plant owners in Oman against the exact code number on the label.

Danfoss product families on this page

Three VLT drives are listed, each aimed at a different duty: the VLT HVAC Drive FC 102 for fans and building services, the VLT AQUA Drive FC 202 for water and wastewater pumping, and the VLT AutomationDrive FC 302 for general industrial machinery. The LCP 12 control panel with potentiometer (code number 132B0101) is also listed; Danfoss specifies it for the VLT Micro Drive FC 51. In pressure measurement there are the MBS 3000 general purpose transmitter and the MBS 5100. Valves include the AB-QM pressure independent control valve in DN 15 to DN 250, the EVR 25 servo-operated solenoid valve and the ICV pilot-operated valve for industrial refrigeration.

Where Danfoss equipment is used

District cooling and chilled water plants, air handling units, booster and irrigation pump stations, desalination and wastewater works, ammonia and CO2 refrigeration plants, food storage and marine engine rooms are the usual places. Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.

Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need

Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.
