ASCO

Solenoid valves are what the ASCO name stands for. The brand goes back to 1888 and is based in Florham Park, USA, and its valves pilot actuators, switch instrument air and control water, steam and light oil in almost every kind of plant. Seven Star LLC sources and supplies ASCO solenoid valves for process and utility service in Oman. Current production is labeled Emerson ASCO, so both names appear in catalogs and on nameplates.

ASCO solenoid valve series listed here

Three series are listed. The ASCO 8210 series is a two-way, pilot-operated general service valve for air, water and light oil. The ASCO 327 series is a direct-operated three-way valve widely used to pilot the actuators of process valves, including shutdown valves. The ASCO 551 series is a pilot-operated spool valve with a NAMUR interface that mounts directly on quarter-turn pneumatic actuators.

Ordering ASCO valves: what we need

Send the complete catalog number from the nameplate, including prefix and suffix letters, since these define the solenoid enclosure, coil and seal options. Add the coil voltage and frequency, pipe size and thread, body material, the fluid, the minimum and maximum operating pressure differential, and whether the valve is normally closed, normally open or universal. For hazardous areas, state the protection type required. Buyers in the GCC often add ambient temperature, which affects coil selection.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I read an ASCO catalog number from the nameplate?
The core digits give the series, such as 8210 or 327, followed by a number for the specific body and orifice. Letters in front describe the solenoid enclosure, for example EF for an explosionproof enclosure, and letters after the number indicate options such as seal material. The nameplate also shows voltage, pressure rating and orifice, which should be sent too.
Why does a pilot-operated ASCO 8210 valve need a minimum pressure differential?
A pilot-operated valve uses line pressure to lift its diaphragm or piston. Below the minimum operating pressure differential stated in the catalog, the valve may not open fully or may not close. For gravity-fed or very low pressure lines, choose a version listed with zero minimum differential or a direct-operated valve. Give us the actual pressures.
Which ASCO series is used to pilot a process valve actuator?
The 327 series is a common choice for piping-mounted pilots on spring-return actuators, and the 551 series is used where the actuator has a NAMUR mounting face. Selection depends on the air supply, the required flow, the area classification and whether a safety function is involved. Send the actuator type and the datasheet of the existing valve.
Which approvals does the manufacturer issue for ASCO solenoid valves?
Depending on the series and solenoid, ASCO valves are offered with North American listings and with ATEX and IECEx certified operators for hazardous areas, and some versions carry a SIL assessment. The approval belongs to the exact catalog number. On request we provide the certificates and declarations that the manufacturer issues for it.
Is Seven Star LLC a distributor of ASCO?
No. Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier. We source ASCO and Emerson ASCO solenoid valves through commercial channels, check the catalog number against the manufacturer's documentation, and provide the manufacturer's datasheet and certificates with the order on request. Send the nameplate data and we will confirm what can be supplied.
