Danfoss ICV Pilot-Operated Industrial Refrigeration Valve
Overview
The Danfoss ICV is a modular, pilot-operated control valve at the core of the Danfoss Flexline platform for industrial refrigeration. Built around a single, common valve housing, the ICV accepts one of three functional inserts — the ICS pilot-operated servo control, the ICM motor-operated control, or the ICLX two-step solenoid control — so a plant can standardize on one valve body across pressure regulation, on/off shut-off, and modulating control duty. Sized from ICV 25 through ICV 65 and rated to a maximum working pressure of 65 bar (943 psi) across a media temperature range of -60°C to +120°C, the ICV Flexline family is engineered for natural and high-pressure refrigerants including ammonia and CO2, positioning it as the direct, drop-in replacement for legacy PM-series control valves in cold storage, food processing, and district cooling plants.
Working closely with plant engineers in the region, Seven Star LLC proudly supplies the ICV pilot-operated industrial refrigeration valve to cold chain, food and beverage, and district cooling projects across Oman, Muscat, and the wider GCC. Every valve shipped through Seven Star LLC is genuine Danfoss product, backed by full factory documentation, warranty, and technical support suited to the high ambient temperatures that make reliable refrigeration infrastructure critical across the Sultanate of Oman.
Operating Principle
When configured with the ICS pilot-operated insert, the Danfoss ICV functions as a servo valve: a small pilot valve, screwed directly into a port on the main valve body, bleeds a controlled amount of refrigerant pressure to open or close the main piston, which then throttles or shuts off the full line flow. Because several pilot valve types can be mounted into the same ICV body — for pressure reduction, pressure relief, differential pressure control, or simple on/off duty — a single valve housing can be field-configured for a wide range of control functions without external pilot lines, solder joints, or weld connections. This eliminates one of the most common sources of refrigerant leakage in older pilot-operated valve designs.
When fitted with the ICM motor-operated insert, the ICV instead uses a stepper motor to drive the valve to any position between fully open and fully closed, giving precise, continuously modulating flow or pressure control under electronic supervision. With the ICLX two-step solenoid insert, the valve provides fast-acting, robust on/off switching, including the ability to open against high differential pressure — for example, immediately after hot-gas defrosting in large industrial ammonia or CO2 systems. In every configuration the shared ICV body means a plant technician can service, upgrade, or reconfigure the control function without cutting or welding the pipeline, dramatically reducing both downtime and system-charge loss during maintenance.
Engineering Design of the Danfoss ICV
The Danfoss ICV valve body is manufactured to withstand a maximum working pressure of 65 bar in a media temperature range of -60°C to +120°C (small sizes; large ICLX sizes are rated to 52 bar), making it suitable for ammonia, CO2, and other future high-pressure refrigerants without a change of valve platform. The ICV with flanges, available in five sizes (ICV 25 PM, 35 PM, 40 PM, 50 PM, and 65 PM), is purpose-built as a flanged, no-cut, no-weld replacement for legacy flanged PM-series control valves, letting a plant retrofit an existing installation without decommissioning the entire refrigeration circuit. The valve body carries a corrosion-resistant QPQ surface treatment and is designed around a special V-port for high regulation performance and smooth, stable control across the full modulation range.
Because the ICS, ICM, and ICLX functional inserts share identical mounting interfaces on the common ICV body, spare parts inventory across a refrigeration plant is significantly simplified: a maintenance team stocking one valve body size can support pressure control, motorized modulation, and solenoid shut-off duty on that line size from a single parts bin. This modularity also means that as a plant’s control strategy evolves — for example upgrading from a basic PM-style pressure valve to an electronically modulated ICM control — the existing ICV body and piping can often be retained, with only the functional insert changed out.
Key Features
Specifying the Danfoss ICV pilot-operated control valve gives refrigeration engineers a single, modular platform for the full range of industrial refrigeration control duty:
- Common valve body accepts ICS pilot, ICM motor, or ICLX solenoid functional inserts for full control-strategy flexibility.
- Rated to 65 bar maximum working pressure across -60°C to +120°C media temperature, suitable for ammonia and CO2.
- Flanged ICV variants (ICV 25 through 65 PM) provide a direct, no-cut, no-weld replacement for legacy PM-series control valves.
- Pilot valves screw directly into the ICS insert, eliminating external pilot lines and solder or weld connections.
- Corrosion-resistant QPQ surface treatment and special V-port design deliver high regulation performance and long service life.
- Shared insert mounting across ICS, ICM, and ICLX simplifies spare parts inventory to a single valve body per line size.
- ICLX two-step solenoid insert can open reliably against high differential pressure, including post-defrost conditions.
- Field-reconfigurable control function without pipeline modification reduces downtime and refrigerant charge loss during upgrades.
Industrial Applications
The Danfoss ICV the Danfoss ICV is specified throughout industrial refrigeration systems handling ammonia, CO2, and other natural refrigerants, including cold storage warehouses, food and beverage processing and freezing lines, and the primary and secondary loops of large district cooling plants. Its pressure and temperature range and modular insert design make it equally suitable for high-side pressure regulation, low-side suction control, hot-gas defrost circuits, and liquid-line shut-off duty, giving refrigeration contractors one valve platform to specify across an entire plant rather than multiple single-function valve types.
With fast quotation turnaround and technical support, Seven Star LLC distributes the Danfoss ICV Flexline range across Oman and the GCC to cold chain logistics operators, food processing plants, and district cooling contractors serving Muscat and the wider Sultanate of Oman, as well as industrial zones in Sohar and Salalah where reliable, low-leakage refrigeration valves are essential to both product quality and regulatory compliance. Seven Star LLC sources common Danfoss ICV body sizes, together with ICS, ICM, and ICLX inserts, on request to support both new-build refrigeration plants and PM-valve retrofit programs on existing cold storage infrastructure.

Demand in the GCC is driven largely by cooling and water.Ordering Danfoss parts: what we need
Every Danfoss product has a code number, and drives also carry a long type code string on the label. Send both. For a drive we need the motor power and current, the mains voltage, enclosure rating, any fieldbus or option card and the filter class. For an MBS transmitter give the pressure span, output signal, pressure connection and electrical connection. For valves give the size, connection type, coil voltage where relevant and the refrigerant or medium.Browse Danfoss products by category: AC Drives, Pressure Instrumentation, Control Valves, Solenoid Valve.
