Danfoss 060-001366 KP 44 Dual Pressure Switch G1/4

Description

KP 44: one housing, two pressure inputs for pump control and dry-run protection

Danfoss 060-001366 is the KP 44 dual pressure switch. Two bellows, two spindles and two G 1/4 connections sit inside one IP22 housing, so a single device can watch two pressures or two points of the same system. The Danfoss KP/KPI data sheet singles out the KP 44 for water pump control and protection against dry running, where it improves pump lifetime.

The left side is set between 2 and 12 bar with an adjustable differential of 0.7 to 4 bar, the right side between 0.5 and 6 bar with a fixed 1 bar differential. The contact system is one normally open and one normally closed single-pole contact, one per side, and both sides reset automatically.

Typical applications and wiring logic

In a pressure booster set the left side can hold the pump on its running window while the right side monitors the suction pressure and opens the contact when inlet pressure falls below the minimum. Because the two contacts are independent, they can be wired in series with the motor starter coil or one can feed an alarm lamp.

Check the figures from the installation guide for the KP 44: control and safety sides carry a PS/MWP of 17 bar, with test pressures of 19 and 25 bar, and the permitted ambient range is -40 to 65 C. Do not mount the switch where dirt, sediment or oil can reach the mechanism, and keep the mounting panel flat so the housing is not stressed.

Selection and order checks

This code is one of several dual-switch versions, so verify the exact ranges on the label of the old unit if you are replacing a KP 44: the values above are specific to 060-001366. Gold-plated and manual-reset variants are not this code. Cable entry and mounting position should be confirmed against the guide before drilling the panel.

Seven Star LLC is an independent supplier in Muscat. Send us the code 060-001366, quantity and the location and we will check availability and supply terms.

Projects that use 060-001366 often need related parts from the same manufacturer, such as connectors, mounting parts or spare kits. Mention them in the same enquiry so that compatibility can be checked together rather than discovered on site, when a missing part stops the work.

Choosing set points for the two sides

Before the KP 44 is installed, decide what each side of the switch has to do. In a typical booster or transfer pump arrangement the left side, with its 2 to 12 bar range and adjustable differential, handles the running window on the discharge, while the right side, with its 0.5 to 6 bar range and fixed 1 bar differential, acts as the low-pressure or dry-run cut-out. Write down the cut-in and cut-out pressure required for each duty and confirm that both values fall inside the range of the side that will serve them.

Remember that the differential on the right side cannot be changed. If the process needs a narrower or wider reset band at low pressure, the application should be reviewed before the order is placed. Also check that the highest pressure the system can reach, including pump shut-off head and any surge, stays below the 17 bar PS/MWP given for this switch.

Mounting and pipe connection

Fit the switch on a flat, vibration-free panel or bracket close to the measuring points, and connect each G 1/4 port with a suitable impulse line. Long or thin lines slow the response, while a line that collects sediment can stop the bellows reacting at all, so route the connections to stay clean and allow venting. On pump sets with strong pressure pulsation, a damping device in the impulse line is commonly used to protect the bellows and reduce contact chatter.

Follow the Danfoss installation guide for the cable entry and electrical connection, and use cable glands that keep the IP22 rating meaningful in the location chosen. Isolate the supply before opening the cover and keep the wiring diagram for each contact inside the panel documentation.

Commissioning and functional test

Set the range spindles to the planned values, then confirm the actual switching points with a calibrated gauge on the same line rather than relying on the scale alone. Raise and lower the pressure slowly on each side, note the pressure at which each contact changes state, and adjust in small steps. For the dry-run function, simulate low suction pressure where it is safe to do so and check that the pump stops and does not restart until pressure has recovered by the differential.

Working conditions in Oman and the Gulf

The ambient range of -40 to 65 °C covers most pump rooms, but switches mounted in direct sun on rooftop tanks or desert well sites can run hotter than the surrounding air. A shaded location or a simple protective enclosure keeps the housing cooler and reduces dust entry, which matters because the enclosure is only IP22. In humid coastal areas, check for condensation and corrosion on terminals during routine inspections, and verify the set points at regular intervals, especially after pump or valve work on the system.

About brand

Danfoss is the Danish engineering group that makes refrigeration and air-conditioning controls, heating components, variable speed drives and mobile hydraulics. Mads Clausen founded it on 1 September 1933 at his parents' farm in Nordborg on the island of Als, after making his first refrigeration expansion valve in 1932. Nordborg is still the group's headquarters, and Danfoss remains controlled by the Clausen family through the Bitten & Mads Clausen Foundation.

  • 1950s: Rapid growth turns Nordborg into a Danfoss town with housing and schools for its workforce.
  • 1968: Danfoss launches its VLT frequency converter, one of the first mass-produced AC drives.
  • 2014: Acquisition of the Finnish drives maker Vacon, now the VACON brand.
  • 2021: Acquisition of Eaton's hydraulics business.

Choosing Danfoss products

For solenoid valves, check the operating principle. A direct-operated valve such as EV210B opens even at 0 bar differential pressure. A servo-operated valve such as EV220B needs a minimum differential (typically about 0.3 bar) to open, while an assisted-lift valve such as EV250B works from 0 bar. Coils are ordered separately, so the voltage on the coil (for example 230 V AC or 24 V DC) must match the control circuit. For drives, the VLT family is split by application: FC 51 Micro Drive for small machines, FC 102 HVAC Drive for fans and pumps in buildings, FC 202 AQUA Drive for water, and FC 302 AutomationDrive for demanding industrial duty.

Where Danfoss products are used

In Oman and the GCC, Danfoss drives run pumps, fans and compressors in district cooling plants, water and wastewater stations, desalination and building HVAC. Danfoss pressure switches, transmitters and solenoid valves are built into chillers, refrigeration plants, boilers and hydraulic systems, and AB-QM valves balance chilled-water circuits in large buildings.
